UFO: JJ Abrams producing four-part documentary for Showtime

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

JJ Abrams is producing a four-part Showtime documentary series that sounds like it might be appealing to anyone who watches our UFO-themed videos over on the Paranormal Network YouTube channel. This Abrams show is simply called UFO, and it's going to

look at what clandestine influence the American government, lucrative private companies, and the military may have in shielding the truth behind extraterrestrial phenomena to further their own agendas. It will also feature shocking testimony from eyewitnesses across the country as it examines the history of the phenomenon through cultural and political touchpoints. The series looks at why average citizens pursuing the truth have been ridiculed while powerful politicians and CEOs are free to investigate behind closed doors.

UFO comes after reporting from the New York Times in 2017 and the New Yorker more recently, which highlighted how the Pentagon began taking the existence of UFOs seriously after footage emerged that navy pilots had been seeing unidentified objects in the sky. While the U.S. Defense Department claims to have found no evidence that the objects military personnel saw are alien spaceships, they can still not explain them.

All four episodes will be available on the Showtime streaming services at midnight on August 8th, ahead of the linear transmission premiere at 9pm.

UFO is directed by Mark Monroe and Paul Crowder. Maren Domzalski, Paul McGuire, and Glen Zipper's Zipper Bros Films are producing the show alongside Abrams' Bad Robot. Abrams, Zipper, and Monroe are executive producers, as are Sean Stuart and Bad Robot's Ben Stephenson and Rachel Rusch Rich. Kevin Lincoln is co-executive producer.

Monroe previously directed the documentary Morning Light, about the Transpac Yacht Race, and has written several more documentaries, including ones on The Beatles and The Bee Gees. Crowder has made documentaries on The Beatles and The Who, and has worked with Stacy Peralta on several projects, including editing Dogtown and Z-Boys and Riding Giants.
