The new Van Helsing TV series from Syfy channel has found its Van Helsing. And it’s Vanessa Helsing, to you!

Kelly Overton (Legends, True Blood) will play the titular vampire killer in the show, which will be overseen by playwright/screenwriter Neil LaBute. (His involvement still baffles and fascinates me.) Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell On Wheels) will be producing the 13-episode series, which kicks off production later this month.

In the show, Vanessa Helsing is…

the next in a lineage of warriors who must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires. When Vanessa is resurrected five years in the future, she learns vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is essentially humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt and Tim Guinee have also joined Van Helsing, which will debut on Syfy in the fall.
