I never really thought much of Mark Wahlberg, mind you I saw him more than just ‘Marky Mark.’ But after THE DEPARTED, in my eyes he can do no wrong. He kicked some major ass in that and should’ve scored that Oscar. He kicked ass in FEAR, FOUR BROTHERS, and SHOOTER as well. If your in the same boat as I am in thinking Mark Wahlberg is one Grade A asskicker, then I have some great news for you!
Variety is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox is in talks with Wahlberg to star in video game adaptation MAX PAYNE. In case you know nothing about MAX PAYNE, it’s about a renegade cop named Max Payne who finds his daughter and wife dead thanks to a group of people high on a new drug. Payne then goes undercover in the mafia to find out more about this drug and get to the bottom of it all. After his contact is shot dead, he has to battle against both the mafia and the police force, all the while trying like hell to clear his name. Seeing how Rockstar, the team that brought us all the epic GRAND THEFT AUTO III, were behind the MAX PAYNE video game, you know it’s loaded with hardcore action.
I think it’s the perfect role for Mark Wahlberg. He’s not at that point yet where he has to line up his Oscar worthy performances (but that time will surely come), so why not take on some badass roles and have some fun? I think that’s some perfect casting. As for the rest of the crew, Beau Thorne wrote the script with Julie Yorn and Scott Faye producing. John Moore will be directing.
