A spec for a zombie flick called MAGGIE recently caused a bidding war in Hollywood. Coming out on top was Timur Bekmambetov (above), who will produce the film with Trevor Kaufman. There was so much interest in the auction because the movie can be made for $4-8 million, a desirable budget following the success of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.
Maggie is a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. It will take six months for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family.
Bekmambetov is best known for directing WANTED, but he previously helmed creatures in NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH. The picture is scripted by John Scott 3, and visual effects designer Henry Hobson is set to direct. The film is on course to be in production within a year.
