Weeds’ Elizabeth Perkins joins Dominic Cooper in AMC’s Preacher

Preacher Elizabeth Perkins

Weeds and BIG actress Elizabeth Perkins has been added to the cast for AMC's Preacher pilot from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, joining Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Ian Colletti and Lucy Griffiths. That's the good news; the bad news is just like Griffiths, it's looking like Perkins will be playing a character who doesn't appear in the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon created comic. Here's the description of her character from Deadline:

Vyla Quinncannon is a genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville. Ambitious, strong-willed and terrifying, Vyla shares a past with Jesse’s father which gives her a singular hold over Jesse.

It sounds like Vyla Quinncannon is a combination of a couple of different characters: Jesse's mom and/or Marie L'Angelle (Jesse's grandmother), and Odin Quincannon, who doesn't appear until the seventh collected volume of the series. Does this mean the TV adaptation will be set entirely (or at least the first season) in Annville? I sure the hell hope not.

I'm quite interested in seeing what Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will do with a TV version of the violent (but also darkly funny) comic, but I'd be fibbing if I said I wasn't just a tad concerned about AMC's Preacher.

Filming for Preacher should start soon, and it is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.
