One of Marvel‘s best offerings in years is returning to Disney+ this October, just in time for Halloween! The howlingly good Werewolf By Night barks at the moon again on October 20 with a colorized version of Jack Russell’s pulpy monster-filled adventure.

In addition to introducing MCU fans to Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), Werewolf By Night features Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), a deadly monster hunter ripped from the pages of Marvel Comics. In September of 2022, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Jack Russell “will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.” Still, with Marvel’s steaming slate under scrutiny after the studio said it’s pulling back on the reigns of streaming content, the werewolf’s future remains a mystery.

Many fans would jump at the chance for more full-moon shenanigans with Jack Russell, and Donnelly is game to return as Elsa Bloodstone, too. Speaking with The Wrap in November last year, Donnelly said, “The thing that I love about this particular story for Elsa is that we get such a sense that we’re only at the beginning of something for her; she’s not introduced as the character that we know from the comics. It’s her pre-that or maybe she has been that and something has happened — we don’t know. And so it does feel like it’s only this little taster of many, many layers that are there underneath and a huge backstory. Any opportunity to explore [a follow-up], I would leap at, and I would also love to explore that relationship between Elsa and Jack as well. That’s just one that is just touched on and you see the beginning of something blossoming and we don’t know what that is. And I love working with Gael. I would be very, very happy to — just call me.”

One of the things that makes Werewolf By Night unique is the special’s black and white presentation. The colorless look gives the MCU entry an old-school, grindhouse vibe, with scratches, cigarette burns, and flickers giving the special a worn, bygone-era aesthetic. Nevertheless, Werewolf By Night will return to Disney+ on October 20. It will be interesting to see the special in full color, and the timing could not be more perfect. Will you check it out?
