With WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki behind them, Marvel Studios have shown that they can successfully pull off all manner of craziness on the small screen. There are plenty of other Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows on the way for Disney+, and one of them might just be a Halloween Special based on Werewolf by Night.

According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios are in the midst of searching for a Latino actor in his 30s to star in a Halloween Special for Disney+. The specifics of the special aren’t known, but The Wrap says that “individuals with knowledge” claim that the character could be based on Werewolf by Night. Production is looking to get underway early next year. While you should probably take this with a grain of salt for now, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard of Marvel’s potential plans for Werewolf by Night. When Kevin Smith was developing the Howard the Duck animated series for Hulu several years ago, he wanted to make use of the Werewolf by Night character for an episode, only to be told that Marvel had other plans for him.

In my head, as I started building my season, I was like, ‘Alright. Episode 5. Werewolf by Night.’ The idea of our story was that Howard was trapped here (on Earth) and he was trying to get pages of the Darkhold, which would allow him to go back (to Duckworld). There’s Howard as I’m laying it out and then I go into Jeph and told him what I wanted to do, and that’s when they said ‘You can’t use Werewolf by Night,’ and I asked why. They said the movie division was using him.

There have been several characters who have fallen under the Werewolf by Night banner over the years, including Jack Russell, a man whose family had been cursed with lycanthropy for centuries. The character was created by Gerry Conway, Mike Ploog, Roy Thomas, and Jean Thomas and first appeared in an issue of Marvel Spotlight back in 1972. The character was soon given his own ongoing series, which also happened to include the first appearance of Moon Knight, a character who is set to be played by Oscar Isaac in his own Disney+ series. Another incarnation of the Werewolf by Night character was Jake Gomez, a boy of Hopi descent who could transform into a werewolf due to a family curse.
