Vampires have already been depicted as living amongst the human population in plain sight (see “True Blood”, HOUSE OF NIGHT), and now it’s the werewolves turn to settle in as our otherworldly neighbors. According to Variety, production company The Gotham Group has optioned bigscreen rights to Benjamin Percy’s werewolf book proposal RED MOON, which plunks the toothy moon-howlers right in the midst of humanity, with some touchy results.
The story is reportedly set in a post-9/11 world of xenophobia in which the long-persecuted Lycans live among humans. A Lycan uprising results in a clash of civilizations.
The Gotham Group has mostly toiled in kids fare thus far, having produced such magical enchantments as ELMO’S CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN and the fantasy flick THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES. They’ve also recently completed the Taylor Lautner flick ABDUCTION (yeah, that’s one to keep an eye on).
No director is yet attached to RED MOON, but the company is currently looking for writers to adapt the tale. The novel won’t hit until Fall 2012.
