Wild Things future

Despite its title, no one has any clue WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, until now. Amidst many reports of reshoots and re-castings, and studio unhappiness over Spike Jonze’s decidedly dark version of the classic children’s novel, the LA Times recently spoke with Warner Bros. studio chief Alan Horn, who had this to say about the project:

“We’ve given him more money and, even more importantly, more time for him to work on the film,” Horn said. “We’d like to find a common ground that represents Spike’s vision but still offers a film that really delivers for a broad-based audience. We obviously still have a challenge on our hands. But I wouldn’t call it a problem, simply a challenge. No one wants to turn this into a bland, sanitized studio movie. This is a very special piece of material and we’re just trying to get it right.”

That sounds like a lot of spin on a bad situation to me, and I can’t imagine the frustration Spike Jonze must be experiencing over this. On the other hand, maybe Warner Bros. is right and his version really just doesn’t work. Either way, it’s been pulled from their 2009 and schedule, and the wait continues.
