I’m a big Bruce Willis fan. Personally, I think he’s the greatest action star ever. I’ll actually be buying LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD for the third time soon. And the original DIE HARD is one of my favorite films of all time.
Unfortunately I’m not bringing you the news that there will be a DIE HARD 5, or a WHOLE ELEVEN YARDS for that matter. No. Instead I’m letting you all know that Bruce Willis will be starring in THE SURROGATES, according to Variety.
Now Eric first told you all about THE SURROGATES months ago. No real news has broke on the movie until now. It’s being said that Willis has signed onto SURROGATES because his prior commitment, Oliver Stone’s PINKVILLE, has been shelved thanks to the writer’s strike. THE SURROGATES is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves. Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others’ surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy.
Like Eric reported, the team behind TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES will be behind this one, with Michael Ferris and John Brancato writing the script and Jonathan Mostow directing. THE SURROGATES is actually based off the graphic novel by Robert Venditti and drawn by Brett Weldele. THE SURROGATES is being produced by David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, Max Handelman, and Elizabeth Banks (yeah, the hottie from SPIDER-MAN, SCRUBS, and newly announced ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO.).
Touchstone will be releasing THE SURROGATES with an early 2008 production date being planned.
