Workaholics movie cancelled by Paramount+ just weeks before filming

Workaholics movie, cancelled, Paramount+

Adam DeVine, Blake Anderson, and Anders Holm co-created Workaholics, a sitcom that revolved three college friends working at a telemarketing company. The series ran for seven seasons on Comedy Central before it ended in 2017, but the trio have been developing a Workaholics movie. Unfortunately, Adam Devine took to Instagram to say that Paramount+ has cancelled the Workaholics movie, just five weeks before shooting was set to begin filming.

Welp, Paramount + decided to cancel the Workaholics movie,” Adam DeVine wrote. “Obviously, this news is the loosest butthole. We were supposed to begin filming in 5 weeks! P + told us don’t fit their new ‘global’ strategy…We are deeply butt hurt about this decision because we were so excited to bring the weird one last time. I’m butt hurt that I don’t get to work with my best friends again. I’m butt hurt for the fans, and I’m butt hurt for our loyal crew, and other cast members who are now going to have to scramble to find new jobs. We are out to other streamers, and hopefully we will get to make this insanely fun movie somewhere else.” DeVine added that they’ll discuss the cancellation more on their podcast tomorrow. The Workaholics movie would have found Adam DeVine, Blake Anderson, and Anders Holm reprising their roles of Blake Henderson, Adam DeMamp, and Anders “Ders” Holmvik, respectively, for a story that would have focused on the experience of working through the pandemic.

While the Workaholics movie may not be happening for now, the trio have reunited on the big screen before in Game Over, Man!, an action comedy that followed three down-on-their-luck housekeepers who must save the day when the Los Angeles hotel where they work is taken hostage. Although I haven’t watched Workaholics myself, I know there are plenty of fans out there who were eagerly awaiting the movie. So I hope that they’re able to find a new home for the project.
