Way back in the middle of July we learned that none other than Sam Raimi would be directing a WORLD OF WARCRAFT movie. This was huge news. A big time director directing a big time movie… always a good thing. But we had no idea who’d be penning the script or exactly what this film would be about within the WARCRAFT universe.
MTV recently chatted with Raimi and the topic quickly changed to WARCRAFT. Within that interview Raimi let loose on who’ll be adapting the script: SAVING PRIVATE RYAN’s Robert Rodat. Big movie. Big director. Big writer. Check. Now let’s see who they’ll get to star in this one! When asked if the story will be based on the WARCRAFT novel ‘ARTHAS: RISE OF THE LICH KING’ as previously rumored, Raimi told them:
“We would choose… something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters. We want to be really faithful to the game. We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture. [We want to capture] the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.”
So Raimi and Rodat will come up with an original WARCRAFT idea that ties into it’s history.. basically? Sh*t whatever comes out of this I’m sure it’ll be amazing, whether you’re a fan of the game or not. What do you guys think? Spit some bullets below on what you think of this duo and maybe who should sign on to star? Keep it here for more on WORLD OF WARCRAFT as we hear it.
