1923 premiere date revealed for Taylor Sheridan’s next chapter of the Yellowstone origin story

Parmount+ announced the premiere date for Taylor Sheridan’s 1923, a prequel series for Yellowstone1932 will introduce “a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.” The 1923 premiere date falls on Sunday, December 18, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada. The series will premiere on Monday, December 19, on Paramount+ in the U.K. and Australia. Premiere dates for other territories are yet to come.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions, 1923 is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson.

1923 stars Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton, and Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton. This chapter of the Yellowstone origin story also features Sebastian Roché (HeatwaveThe Vampire Diaries) will also star. Going down the list of players and ranch hands, we find James Badge Dale (The Empty ManSpectralThe Pacific) playing John Dutton Sr., the oldest nephew and right-hand man of Jacob Dutton (Ford). Darren Mann (Giant Little OnesHello Destroyer) slips into the boots of Jack Dutton, John Dutton Sr.’s son and great-nephew to Jacob Dutton. Marley Shelton (GrindhouseThe Sandlot) stars as Emma Dutton, the wife of John Dutton Sr. and mother of Jack Dutton. Michelle Randolph (The ResortHouse of the Witch) plays Elizabeth Strafford, a spitfire of a woman hellbent on marrying into the Dutton tribe. Brian Geraghty (The Hurt LockerBig Sky) saddles up as Zane, a dedicated ranch foreman. Aminah Nieves (BlueberryDogwood) stars as Teonna Rainwater, a young woman stationed at a government residential boarding school. Meanwhile, Julia Schlaepfer (The PoliticianThe Sky is Everywhere) plays Alexandra, A British woman who comes across one of the Duttons while traveling abroad.

Reports indicate that 1923 will focus on building the Dutton family ranch in Montana. However, Sheridan plans to film in South Africa, Tanzania, and Malta, adding to the prequel’s multi-era reach and majesty. Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe is one of Paramount’s most successful projects, with fans eager to follow the Dutton family into any era for more drama.

Speaking of more drama, Sheridan is interested in turning 1923 into a two-season event. Negotiations are underway, with all major players looking to reprise their roles.
