The DEAD RISING movie has found its first victim.

The Wrap reports Dennis Haysbert (“24”, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR) has been pegged to star in the film for director Zach Lipovsky (LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS). The particulars of his role have yet to be revealed.

Based on the Capcom game of the same name that debuted in 2006, DEAD RISING focuses on…

the harrowing tale of Frank West, a freelance photojournalist after the scoop of a lifetime. In a small suburban town that’s overrun by zombies, he escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be safe. Now it’s a standoff, with zombies unable to get Frank, but him unable to get out & escape. Fortunately, he’s got an entire mall at his disposal. Utilize everything you can find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.

That’s the game’s synopsis, anyway, but chances are good the film will follow suit.

Legendary Digital and Crackle are producing the 90-minute feature for the latter’s digital channel. The film will then be unleashed on VOD, DVD and TV, though no dates have been set.
