Alien: Covenant official novel reveals David didn’t create xenomorphs

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

At this point, mostly all of us can agree that director Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT was a disappointment, both as a prequel to ALIEN and as a sequel to PROMETHEUS. But that said, the film did raise a few interesting questions such as "Who created the Xenomorphs?"

Wait, you don't think that was a question presented in the film? I get you. Me either. But it seems like it isn't as cut and dry as the film made it out to be as the official canon ALIEN: COVENANT novel has a passage where David admits to merely finding the Facehugger and Alien eggs already on Paradise.

The details of all of this are the subject of the video below but the gist of it is that, in the scene where David shows Billy Crudup's character around his workshop, he tells him the story of the dead facehugger lying on a nearby table.

David on the dead Facehugger:

In case you were wondering, I had nothing to do with it. It lies as I found it, a supreme example of the Engineers' skill. And also, their hubris, I suppose. Would that I create something so perfect in its function? I try but I don't have thousands of years of practice in biological and genetic engineering. I only have my pitiful programming on which to draw.

So there, David didn't create the Facehuggers and thus not the Xenomorphs. But more importantly, the video below points out that David doesn't know if the Engineers created the xenomorphs, or if they are something that has existed (basically) forever, and the Engineers happened upon them.

All very interesting shite if you ask me. You can watch the entire video for yourself below and then make sure to hit us up and let us know who you think created the Xenomorphs in the comments below or on social media.
