First MGM’s Robocop nabs a lead and now it has found distribution

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Yesterday we got the news that Joel Kinnaman (best known for his role on AMC’s ‘The Killing’) officially sealed the deal to portray Alex Murphy in MGM’s remake of ROBOCOP.

Well today the film has found itself a distributor as Sony Pictures nabbed the rights. They partnered for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and are also together for the upcoming James Bond adventure SKYFALL. So it isn’t surprising they have come together for this as well.

If you were hoping this project would remain in limbo, well bub you are out of luck. With a director (Jose Padilha), writer (Josh Zetumer), star and now distributor this baby is going to happen. I am not on board with it personally, I cannot see how they can possibly hope to recreate what Paul Verhoeven gave us.

Original film’s synopsis: When a good cop gets blown away by some ruthless criminals, innovative scientists and doctors are able to piece him back together as an unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called “Robocop.”Impervious to bullets and bombs, and equipped with high-tech weaponry, Robocop quickly makes a namefor himself by cleaning up the crime-ridden streets of violence-ravaged Detroit. But despite his new, hardened exterior, Robocop is tormented by scraps of memory of his former life, and relives vividnightmares of his own death at the hands of the vicious killers. Now he is out to seek more than justice…he wants revenge!

A Google search for ‘Female Robocop’ turned up this number!
