Has the Evil Dead remake found a director in unknown Fede Alvarez?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

EVIL DEAD remake news is suddenly pouring in, as it’s evident that things are finally moving on the long-gestating project. And perhaps this is the biggest news yet – if it turns out to be true. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Sam Raimi has chosen the director for the remake, and it’s a young man by the name of Fede Alvarez.

Who is Alvarez, you ask? The name first popped up on our radar in 2009, when his short film, PANIC ATTACK, made some serious waves on the web. So impressive was the response that Alvarez was quickly whisked away to Hollywood, where he took meetings with several studios interested in utilizing his talents. Shortly thereafter, he made a deal with Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, the fruits of which may finally be ripe.

We’ll still take this with a grain of salt until solid confirmation comes in, but this seems to make sense considering Alvarez’s connection with Ghost House and Raimi. Hopefully the definitive word isn’t far off.

In the meantime, watch PANIC ATTACK below; I actually wasn’t all that impressed with it if I’m being perfectly honest – aside from the fact that it apparently cost only $300. Still, if it gets this fellow a big-time gig like this, who the hell am I to say anything?
