IDW Publishing bringing new comics of Godzilla & loads of Zombies!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Considering today is an extremely slow news day I’m sure you guys won’t mind if I take a second to tell you all about a couple new comic properties heading our way courtesy of IDW Publishing. Why am I here telling you about some random comics? Because they involve everybody’s favorite Japanese monster and the undead! What more could you ask for?!

First up we’ve got the news that IDW are gearing up to bring us a whole new series of GODZILLA comics! That’s right folks, that big cuddly bastard will be gracing the pages of IDW comics starting next year. IDW Publishing are teaming up with Toho Co., Ltd. to make this happen. So what might we expect from these new comics? Well apparently the plan is to include various characters from the GODZILLA films that’ve never been seen in comics before! Natch! Check out the announcement from the press release:

In addition to the King of the Monsters himself, the new comics from IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd., will feature many of Godzilla’s friends and foes, including MOTHRA, KING GHIDORAH, RODAN and more that have never before been featured in an American comic book series alongside Godzilla. With an impressive cast of monsters both old and new, IDW’s series will treat fans to both familiar themes and original takes on the pop culture legends that have stomped, smashed, and fought their way across movie screens for over five decades.

Excited? You should be! This shite is set to hit shelves in February 2011. Now are you ready to get even more excited? Hell yeah you are! You see Godzilla is cool and all but what I’m really digging is IDW’s announcement that they’re planning a huge comic crossover event called INFESTATION. Ready for the gory details?!

Apparently the event known as INFESTATION will span over four different comic properties from IDW. So what exactly is INFESTATION? Let’s just say the worlds of TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, G.I. JOE and GHOSTBUSTERS will have to deal with an epidemic we’ve all grown to love: Zombies! That’s right folks, IDW are gearing up to kick off this mega-event that’ll find the worlds of TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, G.I. JOE and GHOSTBUSTERS infested with the undead! Scope out a piece from the press release:

Setting the stage for this massive event, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning will pen INFESTATION #1, launching in January 2011. This initial 32-page story begins in IDW’s own ZOMBIES VS. ROBOTS universe, where something goes terribly wrong and ultimately infests the worlds of TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, G.I. JOE, and GHOSTBUSTERS with zombies and infected robots. From there, the story spins ferociously into each of the four properties throughout February and March, and culminates in April’s bombastic finale, INFESTATION #2.

INFESTATION #1 will hit stores on January 19, 2011. This’ll be followed by: TRANSFORMERS: INFESTATION #1 on February 2nd, TRANSFORMERS: INFESTATION #2 on February 16th, STAR TREK: INFESTATION #1 on February 9th, STAR TREK: INFESTATION #2 on February 23rd, G.I. JOE: INFESTATION #1 on March 2nd, G.I. JOE: INFESTATION #2 on March 16th, GHOSTBUSTERS: INFESTATION #1 on March 9th, GHOSTBUSTERS: INFESTATION #2 on March 23rd and the event will finish up on April 6th with INFESTATION #2.

If you’re looking to pick these up once they hit shelves you’ll be treated to even more goodies including embroidered, sew-on patches featuring “infected” logos of the four titles, a painted cover and a special 16-page sketchbook featuring zombified versions of the perennially popular characters from these four universes. For details on all the names behind this project be sure to head on over to Dread Central.

So what do you guys think? New GODZILLA comics… Zombies injected in the worlds of TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, G.I. JOE and GHOSTBUSTERS… All sounds awesome to me! Be sure to hit us with your thoughts on these projects below and get ready for them to infest comic stores everywhere early next year.

I wouldn’t mind seeing TRANSFORMERS’ Megan Fox (above) versus G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA’s Rachel Nichols (below).
