Insidious and Sinister might crossover, Blumhouse wants Friday the 13th

INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY is doing very well at the global box office, so well that an INSIDIOUS 5 is already looking inevitable. During an interview with the Brazilian website CinePOP, INSIDIOUS franchise producer Jason Blum confirmed that there are hopes for more INSIDIOUS films beyond THE LAST KEY – in fact, Blum is so pleased with the franchise that he can see it surpassing another supernatural horror series he produced, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. The PARANORMAL franchise topped out at six entries, and Blum says he would like to exceed that number with INSIDIOUS movies.

Not only that, but the producer is also considering a crossover film that would see the worlds of INSIDIOUS and SINISTER colliding. When asked if we'll ever see a crossover between Blumhouse properties, Blum said,

I hope so! I want to. We almost did (a crossover between) INSIDIOUS and SINISTER, and I still feel like we might do that. So, I think so. I think we're going to cross our worlds at some point. I don't know how yet, but we're gonna try."

The thought of a film that would feature both INSIDIOUS's Further dimension and SINISTER's child-eating Bughuul is quite interesting to me, and something like this could rejuvenate the SINISTER franchise after SINISTER II seemed to have already run it into the ground. This crossover is something I would be very glad to see happen.

We'll keep you updated if we hear anything more about an INSIDIOUS / SINISTER mash-up. If there's any news about an INSIDIOUS 5 or a SINISTER 3, we'll be covering that as well – along with any announcements about Blumhouse's various other horror projects.

The interview quoted above is embedded below. While chatting with CinePOP's Renato Marafon, Blum also mentions that HALLOWEEN isn't the only slasher franchise he'd like to work on: he would love to make a FRIDAY THE 13TH movie.
