IT: Chapter Two will include The Ritual of Chud!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Screenwriter Gary Dauberman has been all over the horror news lately as he has been out and about promoting his newest film in THE CONJURING universe THE NUN. On top of scripting that film, along with ANNABELLE and ANNABELLE: CREATION, Dauberman also penned the recent hit adaptation of STEPHEN KING'S IT.

So I guess it makes a bit of sense that not only is Dauberman handling script duties for the upcoming IT: CHAPTER TWO but everyone who interviews the screenwriter is asking him for tasty bits of info on the upcoming sequel. And today's bit comes to us from our buddies over at Cinema Blend who talked to Dauberman about Pennywise's return and got a cool update on the currently filming flick.

Dauberman:

The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it's such an important component to the book that we had to address it. That stuff is difficult to balance, but because [director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I] worked with each other before, when I'm writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, 'Hey, here's what I did.' It's sort of organic; it's really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.

He continues:

I think that's something that Andy gave a lot of thought about, which was great, because as I was kind of chugging along through the Adrian Melon stuff and sort of more the stuff that's in the book that you kind of just want to see on screen. I'm writing that stuff, and Andy would kind of go off and think about Chüd and how he wants to visually represent all that stuff. He just came up with some brilliant, brilliant stuff… It really is going to be amazing.

I don't know about you, but seeing The Ritual of Chud play out on the big screen is perhaps the most exciting aspect of this new big-budget adaptation. The metapsychical sequence from King's novel is hands down my favorite part of the book and so I'm ten types of excited to see just how Dauberman and the Muschietti's pull it off visually next September. How about you? Let us know below!

Here's the new film's semi-synopsis:

Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, IT CHAPTER TWO brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

Bill Skarsgård returns in the seminal role of Pennywise along with James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Andy Bean. Reprising their roles as the original members of the Losers Club are Jaeden Lieberher, Wyatt Oleff, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Chosen Jacobs, and Jack Dylan Grazer.

Muschietti directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman based on the novel by Stephen King. Barbara Muschietti, Dan Lin, and Roy Lee are producing the film. Marty Ewing, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg are the executive producers. Production is currently taking place in Toronto, Canada. IT CHAPTER TWO is a New Line Cinema production. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 6, 2019.
