James Wan's Mortal Kombat is still in the picture, but not anytime soon

James Wan Mortal Kombat

James Wan is a busy man. On top of producing or directing pretty much every horror movie that came out this summer, he's directing DC's AQUAMAN, directing the pilot of CBS' MacGyver reboot, and producing MORTAL KOMBAT for New Line. Naturally, something has to take the backseat and KOMBAT drew the short straw. Says Wan:

It's still cooking away... The key here is to try and do it right. I don't want to rush into it. So right now, we're just trying to take our time to make sure it's heading in the right direction. I think that's more important than trying to rush through it and pump up something that no one likes.

KOMBAT fans should rest assured that the movie is coming. But the dude needs a break, am I right? When it arrives, MORTAL KOMBAT will be the first film in the franchise since 1997's MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION.

Make it like a scary tournament movie... Bloodsport meets Insidious...

Think about it, all the amazingly horror inspired characters and powers (Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Goro, etc...) mixed in with Earthrealm warriors realizing their world is just a blip in the radar of all the realms and types of creatures out there. I hated the stupid online miniseries as it did nothing but try to dark knight shit up with "realism" (something that should never be involved in MK)...

But James could really pull off a great tournament movie in the same line as Bloodsport/Enter The

But James could really pull off a great tournament movie in the same line as Bloodsport/Enter The Dragon but with some horror elements to help make the magical elements seem less farfetched (plus we want a MK movie where they throw fireballs, steal souls, rip each other in half...)
