Mads Mikkelsen to play the title role in NBC’s “Hannibal” series

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Nice! Mads Mikkelsen and David Slade working together on NBC’s “Hannibal.” Not a bad combo at all, is it?

According to Deadline, Mikkelsen, hot off his best actor win at Cannes (THE HUNT), has landed the titular lead in NBC’s “Hannibal.” David Slade is directing the pilot episode of the show, being the first in a 13 episode order that begins filming this July. As you may recall, Hugh Dancy will be playing FBI agent Will Graham.

Here’s the skinny: The project is described as a contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

Alright, so what do we think? Mikkelsen a good choice in your eyes? I know it’s hard to think of anyone but Anthony Hopkins, but remember how hard Mads was in VALHALLA RISING? Could definitely work if handled right.
