Another actor is poised to go STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and into the cinematic MonsterVerse that Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. are building around King Kong and Godzilla. After playing Dr. Dre and Eazy-E in the 2015 rap group biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, actors Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell both landed roles in KONG: SKULL ISLAND. Now their COMPTON co-star O'Shea Jackson Jr., who played Ice Cube in the film and also happens to be Ice Cube's son in real life, is in negotiations to join the cast of director Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS.

A sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2014 GODZILLA film, KING OF MONTERS is already set to star Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and Vera Farmiga. Ken Watanabe is expected to reprise his role from GODZILLA '14 in the film, and is likely to be the only returning cast member.

No details have been revealed about the screenplay Dougherty has written with his KRAMPUS collaborator Zach Shields, nor was any information shared about the character Jackson is in talks to play.

Although I wasn't a fan of GODZILLA '14, the awesome KONG: SKULL ISLAND has more than redeemed this MonsterVerse in my eyes, and I'm really looking forward to GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS, which is scheduled to reach theatres on March 22, 2019. The only down side here is that it's still almost two years away.

KING OF MONSTERS will be followed by the crossover film GODZILLA VS. KONG on May 29, 2020. Seven writers were recently assembled to brainstorm the story for the rematch (Godzilla and Kong previously battled in a 1962 film), but I hope they're doing more than just trying to crack the plot of that one. My hope is that they're also working together to come up with ideas on how to keep expanding the MonsterVerse beyond GODZILLA VS. KONG.
