Roland Emmerich’s Singularity delays release as rewrites continue

Earlier this month we let you in on the troubled progress of Roland Emmerich’s new sci-fi romp SINGULARITY, which appears to be something a little different for the director of INDEPENDENCE DAY and 2012. (After already doing something a lot different with ANONYMOUS.) The $175 million-budgeted movie was set to begin production in March, but issues with the script put those plans on hold. As Emmerich and “futurist” Ray Kurzweil toil over the screenplay, Sony has decided it can’t hold on to the flick’s previously-announced MAY 17, 2013 release date.

According to Box Office Mojo, which is wise when it comes to all things release date related, SINGULARITY has moved to NOVEMBER 1, 2013. It faces no competition for the moment, although Marvel will bring THOR 2 to theaters two weeks later.

SINGULARITY focuses on a young man whose body is made up a swarm of nanobots, giving him all sorts of powers; at the same time, it brings unwanted attention from an evil corporation.
