Stallone confirms what Chuck Norris claimed - The Expendables 2 will in fact be a PG-13 film

01.19.2012by: Marcey Papandrea

So a couple of days back, I hit you all with the news that Chuck Norris said in an interview that THE EXPENDABLES 2 will be a PG-13 film. This is because Norris had a few conditions and if those weren’t met he wasn’t going to take the role.

This news really got a lot of people fired up, and why shouldn’t it? Do we really want a PG-13 film? Isn’t the whole idea behind THE EXPENDABLES to be a throw back to the balls to the walls action packed films of the 80’s? They certainly were not PG-13! It also gives me horrible flashbacks to DIE HARD 4, an example of a PG-13 action film not working what so ever.

Moving right along, and as much as I hate to say it, what Chuck had to say wasn’t false at all. Sly Stallone himself confirmed the news with AICN, with the following statement: “Harry, the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance... Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry...Sly”

So what do we trust? The words of Stallone or the stigma of the PG-13 rating?

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries.

But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time -- six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that's nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way...

Extra Tidbit: I am not happy with it being PG-13, but surely it will still be a badass film, right?

Normally id be happy to accept PG-13 or at least wait to see the finished movie. It's true they get away with a bit more than they used to, and yes there were moments in movies like Die Hard 4 that were extreme for that rating however as much I did enjoy the movie I still can't help feel it could have benefited from being a bit more extreme and gone for an R rating. If it were any other action movie being made it wouldn't bother me but as I mentioned on the comments section of the original

If it were any other action movie being made it wouldn't bother me but as I mentioned on the comments section of the original story, the whole point of doing an Expendables movie is to go all out R and throw in the kitchen sink while they're at it. Take away even a part of that then whats the point? Some of the best moments - and I mean the HELL YEAH moments - from the 1st were the moments that earned it an R. I'll still see it but probably not in cinema. Hopefully an R rated cut has also been filmed for back up. If not my advice to Stallone is get back in there and film some R rated shit! Probably not the best example but I do think of Snakes on a plane. It was going to be PG-13 until test screenings said they wanted Samuel L Jackson doing his thing and they went back and filmed violence and swearing, love or loath the movie you can't deny those added moments are what made the movie appealing. Give your audience what THEY want!!!
Sidenote : do kids even know who Chuck Norris is? Why are we pandering to him?

I don't think because of Chuck Norris this is going to be PG 13, it's the producers hoping to make more at the box office. Be careful what you say about Chuck Norris he hears everything.

was chuck norris worth it?

the first movie was great fun, awful acting but brilliant action and was R rated, they are now cutting down the action and/or language just to accommodate chuck norris, he is a legend, but is he really worth this?

Sure you can. Not all, but some of them...yes. Lets take for example Terminator 2. What makes that movie R rating movie? Not much...couple of "ashole" and "fuck you" lines, plus 2-3 scenes where we can see people stabbed in the eye. Other action is not really that graphic...

Just check Parents Guide for Violence & Gore on imdb page for T2...

Like I said... this is definitely a mistake, but these are different times, more violent times, some thing that where considered violent ">

Like I said... this is definitely a mistake, but these are different times, more violent times, some thing that where considered violent back in the 80s today are considered children's plays...my point stays the same...these days you can get away with a lot in PG-13 movies. Plus, to be honest, beside three bloody scene in the first movie (cutting guy in half by Dolph, blowing heads by Crews and cutting head and hands by Sly) there where not many really violent, bloody scenes in first movie that would give movie a hard R rating. And bad language...there wasn't may F words in a first place. There was a scene in directors cut where Sly says to Li "what fucking family", and in original cut he just said "what family", and honestly...that "what fucking family" sounded kind of weird coming from him, so maybe lack of F words wont be a that big of a problem.

Maybe to you...but I loved it, and majority of audience loved it, and critics loved it. It was a good, smart written and well directed movie...

And just to clarify...I grew up watching 80s action movies, and this morning when I read this I was pissed as hell!!! Now I'm a bit chilled because these days you can get away with a lot in PG-13 movies. I agree that this is a mistake, mostly because people will be disappointed, but its not necessary that movie will suck because of PG rating...

I can't imagine certain badass 80's films would have been watchable if they needed to be toned down to Pg-13, think about that ...

Time to cut Norris's part out and do some reshoots. You've got till August. That's plenty of time.

Well they won't get my fucking money, we won't promote it anymore on our site. Who are these bloody Nancy boys running Hollywood just now? Everything has to be family friendly. THIS is NOT for families, this is for the grown ups who watched R rated movies in the 80's and 90's. The whole "it'll make more money if it's PG-13" thing is bullshit, the first film made nearly 300 million worldwide on an 80 million budget. Wanted made over 100 mil domestically as well, so the "R Rated Movies don't make

IMDb ratings don't exactly count towards a film's quality. Die Hard 4 was an awful film.

The action films of the '80s featured bloody violence and totally gratuitous nudity and sex scenes in addition to swearing. If the violence is considered the one and only element acceptable to show to kids, then it just proves that the MPAA have some seriously messed up priorities. And if the movie features NONE of those elements, then I'm not interested. Fuck "the broadest audience possible". This was never supposed to be for them, it was supposed to be for fans of those classic action movies.

Massively disappointed right now; I can't believe this is the same Stallone who made Expendables 1 and Rambo.

Chuck Norris Fact of the day: Did you know Chuck Norris can roundhouse-kick a potentially amazing film into being shit? Not funny but true, apparently.

I've seen some bloody and violent PG-13 films so hopefully the swearing is the only thing that's been toned down.
