The CW passes on Dead Inside and Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters

Wayward Sisters

While putting together their next season of television, The CW has chosen not to move forward with two potential series we have previously covered here on Arrow in the Head; the ghost cop show Dead Inside and the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters.

Dead Inside always seemed like a goofy idea to me. Here's the synopsis:

After surviving an explosion that killed her hotshot detective big brother Zach Gates, underachieving beat cop Emmy Gates starts seeing his ghost, flipping their sibling dynamic on its head and allowing her to truly live her life for the first time, as they work together to help crime victims both living and dead, and figure out the unfinished business keeping his spirit on Earth.

At one point, THE CONJURING's Joey King had been set to play Emmy Gates, but she was replaced for "creative reasons" after a table read. Lyndon Smith was in the role when the pilot went into production, starring alongside Freddie Stroma and Hayley Marie Norman.

Unfortunately, now we'll never get to see Emmy fight crime with the ghost of her brother.

Wayward Sisters (pictured above) seemed like much more of a sure thing, being connected to The CW's long-running genre show Supernatural (which was recently renewed for a fourteenth season). A backdoor pilot for the spin-off aired as Supernatural's midseason premiere this year, and even though the episode and concept were well received by fans, The CW has decided they don't want the show after all.

The series would have been about Kim Rhodes' character

Sheriff Jody Mills and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy. Under Mills’ training and protection, the women will emerge as a supreme monster-fighting force.

Rhodes's fellow Wayward Sisters were Katherine Ramdeen as Alex, Kathryn Love Newton as Claire, Brianna Buckmaster as Donna, Clark Backo as Patience, and Yadira Guevara-Prip as Kaia.

This isn't the first time plans for a Supernatural spin-off have fallen through, but it's more surprising this time. Fans are so upset The CW didn't order Wayward Sisters to series that they have started a petition that currently has over 63,000 signatures. If you'd like to add yours, you can do so at THIS LINK.

As for other genre shows, in addition to Supernatural The CW's fall lineup will also include a fifth season of iZombie, the The Vampire Diaries / The Originals spin-off Legacies, and reboots of Charmed and Roswell.
