Tobias Menzies to lead the Lycans in Underworld V

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

One of my biggest cinematic obsessions outside of the horror genre is the James Bond franchise, so I know Tobias Menzies from his role as M's assistant Villiers in the 2006 Bond film CASINO ROYALE. Although he has since been on popular television shows like DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, and OUTLANDER, I still know him only as Villiers.

Now Menzies has come to my attention again by signing on to star in the latest installment of the "vampires vs. werewolves" horror franchise UNDERWORLD. The British actor will have a "major role" in UNDERWORLD V, playing a "mysterious new Lycan leader" named Marius.

This reunites Menzies with director Anna J. Foerster, with whom he worked on OUTLANDER. A veteran television director who has shot second unit on films like THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW and 10,000 B.C. and served as cinematographer on projects including WHITE HOUSE DOWN, Foerster will be making her feature directorial debut on UNDERWORLD V.

Menzies joins a cast headed up by Kate Beckinsale (pictured below) and Theo James, reprising the roles of vampiric characters Selene and David.

I've never been a fan of the UNDERWORLD movies, but I'll most likely check out UNDERWORLD V at some point. Before then, I still have to watch the previous entry in the series, 2012's UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING.
