Two new Sinister images live up to the film’s title

There are so many paranormal, ghost, and found footage movies coming out that’s it is getting increasingly harder to keep them all straight. Besides PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4, the only one that really stands out from the pack for me is SINISTER. The Scott Derrickson helmed haunted house flick looks like a fun mash-up between Brian De Palma’s BLOW-OUT and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. It’s a novel premise and after seeing two new images from the film, I’m even more excited.

Of course they play up star Ethan Hawk, but they also give a strong sense of the SINISTER’S dread-tinged atmosphere. Some people enjoy jump scares, some people like gore, but I live to have a movie send my heart plummeting towards my stomach. INSIDIOUS had that effect, as did Derrickson’s previous horror film, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE. Based on everything I’m seeing, SINISTER looks to be a pulse pounder in the same vein.

The film stars Hawk, Julie Rylance, James Ransone, Vincent D’Onofrio and Fred Dalton Thompson. It hits theaters October 5th. Check out the synopsis and images below.
