Big Willie Stogie

UPDATE: Following Emmerich's interview with MTV, the folks from IESB looked up their sources at Fox who say they have currently no plan whatsoever for developping an ID4 sequel. They'd probably rather run the X-MEN franchise to the ground...

Who here wants to see more aliens shooting green sh*t at Will Smith? Yeah, it's been talked about for years, but Rolly Emmerich says there's an idea in for a new movie in place. Well, not really. There's actually an idea for TWO movies. And a title. But that one's too good so I'll save it for the end.

Talking to the folks of MTV on the verge 2012's release, the director and Earth destroyer says he does intend to come up with an ID4 sequel and that the idea would have simply Big Willie fight a second wave of the invasion.

"What we want to do in the next – it's actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc," he explained. "The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended."

Will Smith looks more like he's going for Oscar Gold than Box-Office glory these days, so I wonder if he'll go back to his first big movie hit. And Jeff Goldblum isn't getting any younger. Vivica A. Fox is still hot though...

Thanks to the CineFools bunch for the heads-up. Oh - that title! Ready for this? In Emmerich's own word, "'ID4-Ever,' Part I and II maybe?" You guys think he was just kidding?

Source: MTV

Extra Tidbit: I wonder how President Bill Pullman would do with that line. "Today we celebrate our Independence Day. 4 Ever. And Again." Yeah, that'll be a killer line.

SWEET
I've been waiting for a sequel to this film for a long time. To hear that there might be two filmsis pretty cool! I really hope theentire cast returns though! Unfortunately without Randy Quaid though.

ID4-Ever is a title that was used when the sequel was first talked about years ago. No surprises here.

What the fuck for?
As much as I loved the first one, it doesn't really merit a sequel. i could gor a prequel, but at this point, it's really past the point of worth doing. He should have jumped on that when he had the opportunity. Like right after ID4 blew up the box office...and the white house.

I was wondering how Emmerich could top the be-all-end-all destruction of "2012". But this INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel sounds like just the ticket. I hope this happens.

I was all for a sequel or even prequel to ID4, explaining more about the alien technology and why they came here.. but then it would feel too much like District 9.

As for a whole Independence day trilogy? What could possibly happen that would take 4+ hours of story to tell? Another invasion?

It has great potential but I don't trust the hands of Roland Emmerich

I may be an idiot, but could someone please explain to me why this movie is always referred to as ID4? It's Independence Day. Part 1. I understand it takes place on the 4th of July, but this still makes no sense to me.

Oh yeah, and Emmerich sucks. We don't need 1 more Independence Day movie, let alone 2.

Not at all Darth. Lets be honest, Roland only makes ridiculous large screen disasters so better for him to go back and revisit something we all enjoyed than find some other retarded way to kill 3/4 of the Earth's population.

An ID4 sequel might be cool...I always thought the 1st one was great in the theater but realized that it kinda sucked once it hit the small screen.

ID4 THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T CALL IT THAT!
I'd definitely be down with two more INDEPENDENCE DAY films. I love the first one (flaws and all) and have always thought it would be interesting to see the second wave invasion. My hope is that at the end of the second movie humanity captures an alien ship and takes the fight to the alien homeworld. I think that would be epic.

But if they call it ID4-EVER I'll die a little inside.

I can fly, I'm a pilot.
I hope they find some ludicrous way to bring Randy Quaid back, like a twin brother or maybe he was transported to the alien home world.

hmmm
This could go both ways. I'd love to see a sequel that takes place 12 years later with everyone properly aged. Pullman's character gets asked to join the new President's staff along with Goldblum due to the knowledge of the aliens. Smith is some high ranking officer, or possibly an astronaut...

And Vivica Fox needs a hit.
