2 clips from Michael Bay's Pain and Gain highlight penis magic and incompetence

Apr. 10, 2013by: Paul Shirey

The trailers and TV spots for Michael Bay's PAIN AND GAIN have thus far looked exactly like the kind of film you'd expect from the director. Loud, kinetic, flashy, and chopped like a car commercial on, you guessed it, steroids. It has the signature humor that Bay typically injects in his films, which often feels like it shouldn't be there (i.e. TRANSFORMERS). However, I think that PAIN AND GAIN may be the first time that Bay's goofy humor will work out in his favor, as the three leads, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, all seem to be having a great time playing complete idiots.

Today, we have two new clips from the film, which highlight the above-mentioned comedic antics. The first is a candid talk with Anthony Mackie to his nurse, played by Rebel Wilson, about his steroid use. The second is a look at the precise planning and execution of the bodybuilding criminals. Or not.

Time for some penis magic:

For the first time since THE ISLAND, I'm actually looking forward to a Michael Bay film. Sure, I was excited to see the first TRANSFORMERS and enjoyed it for the most part, but the sequels soured it all for me. PAIN AND GAIN looks like a return to the fun and frenetic style that suits Bay best and I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we still have to endure TRANSFORMERS 4 before he gets back to this type of work again.

PAIN AND GAIN pumps you up on April 26, 2013.

It's tough being Michael Bay...

Being from Miami, I'd have to say Bad Boys 2. It really is a hilarious film. I think the whole third act in Cuba is shit and actually brings down my rating of the film, but still entertaining nontheless

The Rock! Jedd the Jedi said it all for me. Plus it has Sean Connery cursing at Nic Cage being a fuck up! Priceless!!!

Extra Tidbit: Bad Boys II. Not a good film by any means but I absolutely love it for some reason.

The Rock

Any time Bay works with an R-rated movie, it's gold.

Tidbit: Bad Boys 2. As AlmostFamous pointed out below, by no means a good film. Although it features some of the most ridiculously entertaining action set pieces ever committed to film. And probably Will Smith's funniest performance.

I'm also going with "The Rock" for the extra tidbit. It was a straight-up, brutal action flick done right and was really helped along by the chemistry between Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage, as well as Ed Harris' performance as the villain. Armageddon, stupid though it may be, also occupies a special place for me because it was probably the first movie I saw in theatres (the second being Prince of Egypt).

EXTRA TIDBIT

The Bad Boys films. Awesome. Not awesome in an ironic way. I genuinely love those films.

EDIT: But if i had to pick one of the two, Bad Boys 2

Tidbit: The Rock.

Say what you want about Bay, but his R rated movies are pretty awesome and right up the alley for a guy's guy. Which is why I'm interested in P&G
