Adrianne Palicki & Nick Blood to headline Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Adrianne Palicki Nick Blood

Deadline has learned Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season two cast members Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) are finalizing deals to headline the planned spinoff series.

The spinoff will be set up by events from the current season of the series, and could potentially air concurrently with S.H.I.E.L.D., similar to what ABC did with Once Upon a Time and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. That decision didn't work out too well for the network though, and it is more likely that the spinoff will air between the fall and spring runs of S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski developed the spinoff, and are also writing the script. Deadline has heard if it goes to series Zbyszewski will probably serve as the showrunner, however ABC isn't expected to officially give it the greenlight until they receive the script. 12 YEARS A SLAVE screenwriter John Ridley is also developing an ABC series based on a Marvel character, and some believe it could be the Kamala Khan version of Ms. Marvel.

Are you interested in watching an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series with Mockingbird and Lance Hunter as two of the lead characters?

I love AOS and am not apologetic about it, but this is a bad fucking move. Season one was bad at first then got good. Season two has been pretty damn good in part because of the addition of both Hunter and Mockingbird. So you're going to take a series that finally got good, and strip away part of what made it good? So instead of 1 good series, we'll have 2 subpar ones? How about you concentrate your efforts on making AOS continually good for more than one season before you start tearing

S.W.O.R.D.

my kid watches all these cartoons and one of them features a SHIELD "spinoff" thats more military-like called SWORD. even on the toons it seemed solid. they would need some powered individuals and worthwhile writers. i will reserve judgment, as i ended up liking Agent Carter more than expected.

There are 2 possibilities.

1) This was planned before they were introduced to the show. Then why were they added as regulars?
2) This was planned before they were introduced to the show. Then the writers and producers are just winging it at this point.

The problem is that they haven't been long enough in the show for the viewers to be 100% sure if we like these characters or not.

I consider myself an AoS fan... But the first season was definitely a mixed bag. Season 2 has seen a vast improvement but I'd hardly say it's proved itself enough to warrant a spinoff?

I guess, rather than a second 'SHIELD' series it'll actually be a Mockingbird series, and I guess that makes sense but how different a series can it be?

Whilst he's not my favourite character I'd much rather see a Ward/Hydra lead series - something from the villains POV... That way the inevitable crossovers

OK If AOS Tightens Up

This could work if the new show is short and sweet, say 8-10 episodes for their season and AOS is shortened a bit as well with less filler in the story arcs. Bring Agent Carter back with a 10 episode season and run all of these series consecutively. This would leave time for breaks around major holidays and sports/ media awards, keep the Marvel brand in everyone's eyeballs and minds, and fill in the storyline gaps and background the big money movies have. (Sorry for the run on sentence!)

Whilst this isn't confirmed yet...it sounds like a series centred around the other Shield organisation and that doesn't sound like a good idea to me just beause it'll be far too much. However, it would explain the strong casting of Olmos in season 2 though.

No thanks

I'm with a lot of the dudes and possible dudettes below - AOS is struggling to find a balance I feel. It's always the problem when you have so many episodes to fill it often feels like one week wraps up and the next begins - I'd rather see more done over say 6 episodes or a shorter series. Personally I don't see this spin off getting much mileage - I like hunter especially being English I like the UK connection the show has with him and agent simmons but I think AOS is at a critical timeline at

The inhumans is still some time away in movie terms and I'd have rather seen more stuff link to Age of Ultron if I'm honest. Grant Wars and agent 33 have become interesting but this whole 2 levels of shield and then Hydra it's all in danger of becoming a bit silly. I'd love this show to have more star power than it does, for me cameos like Hawkeye, Falcon and War machine would attract more viewers than Lady Sif. That's my view anyways

Very odd choice for a spinoff. I thought it was going to involve the inhumans and Gordon tracking down new ones, or even the other shield group with Edward James Olmos. But these two? I have serious doubts. Their lovers quarrel scenes have been the worst part of this season.

Hmmm. I must admit to being an AOS convert after such a good season 2. Loving Daredevil too. As for this, I just don't know. I suppose we will know more as AOS continues but I'd rather see a show about the Inhumans we've met than this. Marvel you're doing it already. No need to do it twice.

You've got to be freaking kidding me.....

So AoS FINALLY got good enough to be worth watching (for the most part) and they want to take the coolest character (Hunter) and move him to another show in an attempt to jump into an over-saturated market?

This might lose them a viewer. I don't know if I'm interested enough in the show to watch without both of them.

Look, I love comic book heroes a lot but is there a point when over saturation is going to hurt the entire thing? This is just spreading things way too thin. I don't remember anyone asking for this nor do I, someone who actually liked Agents of Shield, even care about these two characters enough to tune in and watch it.

Come on people, stop trying to find the breaking point for all of this and just make whats there now better.

After finishing Daredevil, I'm not even interested in any Marvel shows ABC plans to put out. Not saying it won't be good, but just that there's no way they can deliver the same calibre of storytelling.

That being said, this does have promise as a series. ABC really needs a superhero show within the MCU and a Mockingbird centred show may be their best bet. I know AoS has it's fans, but the show is really lacking in quality over the long-term. The show suffers from a 22 episode season

The show suffers from a 22 episode season order as they end up with a lot of filler while they tread water waiting for the release of the Marvel tentpoles in the summer. I think for this spinoff to truly work, they need to reduce AoS season order to 13 and give this show 13 episodes as well. Have the spinoff open up the TV season in the fall and have AoS pick up in February for a big lead in to whatever Marvel movies are coming out that summer.

And it will be titled "Another SHIELD Show."
Honestly the Marvel Universe has got to have something else they could base a network show on.
