Bryan Singer tweets our first look at the revised Beast from X-Men: Days of Future Past

Apr. 5, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Bryan Singer revealed another detail from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST today on his Twitter feed. This time he gave us our first look at the newly redesigned Beast. Previously played by Kelsey Grammar in X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND and by Nicholas Hoult in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, Beast has been presented both as a very animal in appearance and somewhat human. This new version looks closer to the LAST STAND take on the blue mutant.

The tweet from Singer was accompanied by a quote: "Many a monster wears the form of a man; it is better of the two to have the heart of a man & the form of a monster" Take a look at the new Beast:

I am a little confused by this image as it doesn't really look like Hoult's face, but this is a blurry Twitter image after all. This raises some concerns that Singer is trying to turn X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST into a sequel to one of his X-MEN films instead of a true sequel to FIRST CLASS. I could be wrong, but Beast looks nothing like his FIRST CLASS self.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore and Daniel Cudmore, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Omar Sy, Peter Dinklage, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart will open everywhere on July 18, 2014.

Good Move

I laughed out loud when I saw Beast in "First Class." It took me right out of the movie, the makeup was so bad. I hope this one is better.

The makeup looks good.
I'm still a bit disappointed that Vaughn is gone but Singer is a fine replacement. Just hope he can do that same creativity he did for X2.

the more images I see the more scared I am for this film. looks like Mr Singer is trying to redeem himself for leaving the franchise, and in the process, ruin it it overcompensating for this film with all the characters.not looking good.

Always been weary of Singer

Ever since I heard Singer was doing DOFP my excitement dropped and disappointment rose. I felt like he would be doing exactly what hes been doing which is making this more of an X-Men movie. sigh.

What are you smoking, this was always going to be an X-Men movie! Considering that Singer directed the only solid X-Men movie (X2) there couldn't be a better choice. Tthere won't be any January Jones or name game 60's style slumber parties and that already makes this better than First Class.

Beast is my second favorite X-man (next to Nightcrawler) I'm so glad they're going with the blue furry NON feline look.

Is it just me or does Beast on the header look like he has more altered face than the closeup? The closeup looks like just facepaint and a beard while in the header he has a few facial appliances applied..
I'll miss Kelsey Grammar in the part, he may not be an action star but he was perfect delivering Dr McCoy's "Oh my Stars and Garters "line.

Its Nicholas Hoult, I recognized his lip on the pic, in a similar way to the makeup on Warm bodies.

Mixed feelings here.

In the comics I always preferred the classic beast over the later more feline incarnation. I got what they were trying to do by taking away his "humanity" in a sense, making it harder to identify with the character as human when he looked more feline. I never outright hated the design, I just liked being able to identify with the big blue dude (I much preferred either incarnation over the original hairless gorilla man version though)

I thought Kelsey Grammer was an awesome Beast in both look

I thought Kelsey Grammer was an awesome Beast in both look and casting in X3. One of the better things about that film in all honesty. Again I didn't outright hate the more feline direction they went with in First Class, and understood that the filmmakers were, like the comic artists, trying to get across the point of the character losing a lot of his humanity and fully embracing the "beast" side, and so I got the re-design. I tried to tell myself that maybe Beast's mutation lessened a bit as he grew, matured and became more human. Perhaps the formula wore off a bit, allowing him to become the Beast from X3. Perhaps he ran across a cure of sorts in-between the movies, thus helping him return to the hairless Hank McCoy that we see cameo in X2.

This however...totally shits on that idea entirely. Again I prefer the new look, it's a return to the more human Beast that I prefer above all others (he also looks totally like a blue Teen Wolf), but I'm also a stickler for continuity, something this franchise is sorely missing and I was hoping this movie helped piece it all together a bit more. Hopefully they'll explain it, perhaps going with the explanation that his mutation calmed down a bit after the initial rushing outburst of animality, post-serum that we see in First Class......but I doubt we'll get any explanation at all.

I don't know where I was going with that post, just rambling in all honesty. So, er, um, eerrmmm......

My gut tells me this is not going to be a good movie. I hope it doesn't kill the franchise.

ie: not Taylor Kitsch. I can't stand it when an actor suddenly drops the character's accent for no particular reason, and Kitsch lost Gambit's New Orleans accent within 5 minutes of his character coming onscreen.

There is a reason...

I visited the visual effects house that worked on First Class, Amalgamated Dynamics. They were brought in last minute to create the suit for Beast under a tight timeframe. What they came up with was not bad, and everybody seemed happy with it except for Bryan Singer. Apparently he hated X-Men: First Class, and hopes to steer the franchise back to his original vision. I do like Singer's version better, I think Vaughn was trying to make it look like Beast from Astonishing X-Men...

I personally

I personally thought First Class was a pretty faithful and entertaining X-Men movie besides the whole "Havok" timeline issues. (Cyclops younger brother being born in the 50's?) The costumes and characters felt like they were straight from the comics. They even wore the same colors in the original comics! Very Cool!

I heard rumors about Singer coming to the "Jack the Giant Slayer" set drunk, so I hope he hasn't lost his touch...

I hated a lot of stuff about Singer's X-Men movies. I was so happy when they made First Class and it wasn't like the others. I had seriously hoped they would continue down the same road, not make another one in Singer's "vision". But to each his own, and that's just fine.

Singer helped write First Class. I've only ever heard him praise the movie in interviews. And if (IF) Singer didn't like Beast's design, then I agree with him 100%.

I'm telling you guys what the Visual Effects team noticed, he hated the final product.

I know he was the producer, I was shocked as well to hear that, but what you don't understand is he wasn't satisfied with the final version of the film. He would never talk trash about his movie publicly, he has the best intentions for the movie to succeed. What they are saying is that he simply was not happy with the direction Vaughn was taking the franchise.

I'm going to believe ADI, as they actually

I personally prefer this look of Beast as opposed to the feline look he had in First Class. I enjoyed First Class, but Beast's look was one of my few complaints about the film.
