Strike Back below!
by: Niki Stephens Oct. 9, 2009

Update:I just got this email from MGM Studios, here's what they had to say on the push back: "The reason for Cabin's delay is the conversion to 3D which with VFX and finishing will likely take around 6 months. Then the issue came down to availability of the 3D screen tracks which as you're probably aware are limited. Thus we arrived on the holiday (MLK) weekend where we think the film can find a much larger audience."

What is this?! The year of, 'let's push every film back for whatever stupid ass reason'.

So what's the reason for pushing back Joss Whedon & Drew Goddard's used to be upcoming CABIN IN THE WOODS? MGM reps say that since the early hype for the movie has been so outrageous that they are spending about six months converting the movie into 3D.

How long will it take? Or rather, will when the movie be released? The original date was February 5, 2010 and is now January 14, 2011. This is rather ridiculous. Why couldn't they just release it regularly then do a 3D version later? Was there this huge demand for it in 3D that we were not aware of? Well regardless, it's still happening.

Seriously, does everything have to be in 3D now? I want to be interested in a film and not teased until I just give up on the thing all together. Does it matter to you, the viewer, if a film is in 3D? What would you be willing to hold on for? Stop the madness! Though, SHUTTER ISLAND can tease me all it wants to.

Extra Tidbit: I say, more Bradley Whitford. So glad he's in this.

The 3D idea has reemerged only because Hollywood is trying to find a way to get the "HOME THEATER" generation back to theaters!

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my movies in 2D. I absolutely agree watching them in 3D just feels gimmicky and dumb. I can't wait til this sh*t passes. And I was looking forward to this one too....Joss Whedon is the f*cking man.

What a terrible move. The 3D novelty will have probably worn off a great deal by 2011. Also, why make a movie 3D that wasn't filmed specifically for that format? What's the point? Fuck this whole mess.

I live in Orlando, so as far as I'm concerned 3D is a theme park gimick. I have no plans to ever see a movie in 3D. And I hate wearing other glasses over my prescription glasses.

i was mildly interested in this, now i honestly dont care if it ever sees the light of day. the only reason they may need the 3D gimmick to sell this is because the "ealry hype" will have long since passed. save 3d for kids movies leave it out of horror.

A whole year?
WTF?! For no good reason. 3D is just a gimmick for the studios to make more money. It's really not that entertaining and I find myself LESS interested in a movie once I find out it's in 3D. MGM is doing this because they aren't confident in the movie and want to wring every cent out of the film going public that they can. If the early hype was really that "outrageous" why not say "Screw 3D,...

Sorry if that sounded rant-y. This just kind of pushed me over the edge.

3D is distracting and mostly applied to movies I dont care for.

If a movie Im interested in is in 3D, well, I'll probably just see it in regular 2D.
