Could Natalie Portman play Lois Lane in Superman?

09.28.2010

Remember yesterday when I was like, "Darren Aronofsky could possibly direct SUPERMAN."

Well now add another possible name to the equation--Natalie Portman.

Please note that this is all currently hearsay stemming from "a friend" of the site, Moviehole. This friend apparently worked on BLACK SWAN with Aronofsky who said that the director has been thinking about helming SUPERMAN for awhile. But he has not progressed beyond "the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois".

This "friend" also adds that, "They wanted her first time around [obviously for SUPERMAN RETURNS], this time they can get her - with Darren. But who knows where that's at now..nothing on paper yet. Don't add his name to the IMDB director listing on the film's page yet."

So that's that. Is it true? Perhaps. I'm sure that in the coming months we will be hearing more and more rumors on the project. Portman has a great relationship with Aronofsky since they worked for quite a while on developing and filming BLACK SWAN. Then again, would she take it after being in THOR? I'd take Portman as my Lois. Would you?

Extra Tidbit: Who do you see as a great Lois Lane?

ZOOEY!

Zooey Deschannel is totally Lois Lane. She's got the sass, the smarts, and the voice, plus she's purdy. Portman is a gorgeous, but totally wrong for the role.

Superman is the worst possible avenue that DC could spend money on. There hasn't been a decent Superman movie in decades for a reason. His character is way too flat to compete with other superheroes. They should just save their money for the inevitable Green Lantern sequel.

No. This is not how I've ever pictured Lois Lane. Why is it everytime a female lead is talked about in a fanboy film, Natalie Portman is somehow attached?

May get flamed for this, and it'll never happen anyways, but Erica Durance is my choice for Lois. No one else has captured here as well as her.

Evangeline Lilly has the perfect look, but after watching her cry almost every single episode if Lost, It's hard seeing me play the tough reporter.

Portman I'd totally be ok with, and for the person who said "can't see her doing both Marvel and DC", pretty sure after RR no one really cares about that.

I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead also has

I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead also has the look and can play the tough girl role perfectly. If they're going for an older Supes though (John Hamm ALL THE WAY) then she'd be too young.

Unfortunately, I just don't picture it. However, Aranofsky is definitely one to get inspired performances from people.

She's not how I see Lois Lane. Too petite. Someone mentioned Rachel McAdams. I think she would be a brilliant choice. Perfect really.

Not liking Natalie as Lois Lane

Not because I don't like Natalie Portman, but I really want her to get going on Pride & Prejudice and Zombies. I want to see her kicking ass instead of being the damsel in distress.

That comic picture made me think of Odette Yustman. Has the look, and is a good actress.

Hardly

I find it unlikely that she'll be in both a Marvel Studios film and a DC Entertainment film.

Look at the attached director

Nothing is sure until it comes out. I'd bank on her not only not being Lois, but someone else will direct. This guy is pegged for everything, and then... nothing. Where's Robocop? Where's Batman: Year One? Nothing against him, it's just I'm tired of hearing he MIGHT do something.

Depends on who Superman is. If it's an older guy like Jon Hamm I would pick Lisa Edelstein. If it is someone younger, then I guess Portman works more.

Portman is a fine actress and all, and would do well with the role, but this isn't for her. I would rather see Rachel McAdams or Evageline Lilly for the role of Lois Lane. JoBlo should do a cast this for Lois Lane.

I think Natalie Portman could be a decent choice but I would like to see Jennifer Connelly play Mrs. Lane. How about Matt Blomer(White Collar)for Superman.

Portman for Lois Lane would be oh so sweet.

So some reason I've always seen Jennifer Morrison or Cameron from House as a good choice for Lois.

Portman's one of my favorite actresses, but I can't really see her playing the damsel in distress type role again after 3 Star Wars films and Thor (granted I know nothing about her Thor character). I don't know what age they are looking for, but I'd suggest Rebecca Hall. One of the most underrated actresses right now and deserves a big role.

Damsel in Distress?? Lois Lane is far from that. She's a tough, sarcastic, smart ass, can totally hold her own in a fight, and yes, even though Superman saves her a lot, she's far from some dainty helpless woman.

Portman would be awesome. They should just adapt Superman - Red Son (w/ Jon Hamm) as a stand alone movie before they reboot the franchise, though.

Yes! That would be such a killer movie and Hamm would be perfect for the role! For that kind of adaption, there I could see Aronofsky doing Superman, if he was going to be involved. And Natalie would fit there, too. Let's push for Red Son.

This would be great casting. This is one of those casting decisions that makes perfect sense and would be great. The only thing questioning is her in Thor, playing the girlfriend/love interest. I'd be down for her though, if she got it. Rachel McAdams would also be another great choice. At this point though, I want to have a great director and a great actor to helm and be Superman. After that, then focus on Lois Lane.

Natalie Portman is so not Lois Lane. Mila Kunis is more Lois Lane than Portman. Racheal McAdams would be my top pick. Isla Fisher would be good. Kate Beckinsale I could see. No Bosworth, thank you.

Keep the same cast

Natalie Portman would be a great Lois Lane, she'd be able to nail that character so well. And she'd play great opposite Brandon Routh (if he's coming back) or John Hamm (who I think should play Superman in the next movie).

I'm a huge Portman fan so I wouldn't mind her in the role, but I agree with what has been said below. There are plenty of other actresses - known, kind of known, or unknown - that should have their chance at the role.

But most importantly, anyone would be better than Kate Bosworth.

Racheal McAdams for Lois.

I like Portman but she's just not right for Lois, plus she's already playing THOR's girlfriend who's like MARVEL's version of Superman.

Aronofsky's babes

If Aronofsky goes for it, it'd be wicked to have Rachel Weisz, his lady friend, as Lois Lane. She's a few years too old but why not go for a grown up Supes movie ? As an antidote to rejuvinating Spidey.
