Daniel Radcliffe goes from Hogwarts to WWI trenches in All Quiet on the Western Front

Where do you go once you’ve finally put away your magic broom and wand? If you’re kid-wizard Daniel Radcliffe, you follow the colossally successful HARRY POTTER franchise with some grim but potentially award-winning material.

Radcliffe will star in ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, the new adaptation of the 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque. The book was already adapted into an Oscar-winning 1930 film (and a 1979 TV remake with “The Waltons” star Richard Thomas).

The story follows young Paul Bäumer, a German man who (along with several schoolmates) is inspired to volunteer for service in the army, only to experience the unimaginable horrors of war while fighting on the front lines in World War I.

The update will reportedly begin filming next year, although no director has been named. It will also be a “re-imagining” set 200 years in the future on one of Jupiter’s moons. Nah, kidding.
