Director Brad Bird says The Incredibles 2 will be his next movie

The Incredibles 2 Brad Bird

Brad Bird is currently working on the script for THE INCREDIBLES 2, but what many fans of the first movie want to know is will he also be back to helm the sequel. During an interview with Collider, the director was asked if THE INCREDIBLES 2 will be his next project, and Bird seemed to confirm he will be directing the animated movie, saying, “Yeah it feels like it to me, yeah.” Bird also gave an update on the script.

Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages. I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.

Brad Bird was one of the filmmakers approached for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, and with director Josh Trank no longer attached to the second STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY film (which will likely be about Boba Fett), Collider wanted to know if Bird is interested in taking over the project.

Well Kathy and I have discussed the possibility of—I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it. I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and—J.J. got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of—I’m writing a sequel to The Incredibles and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.

Although it's unlikely Bird will be behind the camera for the film, it does sound like it's possible he could direct a future Star Wars flick. He's obviously going to be a little busy for a while with THE INCREDIBLES 2, but I'd love to see what he would do with a Star Wars movie.

Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson will be in theaters on May 22, 2015.

"Well what are you waiting for? I don't know. Something amazing I guess."

Been waiting for this, this was not just a great animated film, it was a great film all around. You really love the characters. Even side characters like Edna Mode and Frozone. Speaking of which, I hope we get more Frozone and it would be cool if he had a kid now, as well as maybe his wife who is his greatest good he is ever going to get should have powers also.

Glad he's finally doing this. Maybe I can read a Pixar article without reading comments bitching about not having an Incredibles sequel.

I'm glad they waited for Bird to make this movie, rather than rush out a sub-par sequel. I wonder if the characters will have aged in this new movie, or keep them the same age as the first film.

I like that Brad Bird seems to be more about doing his own original work rather than jumping on the hype train and attaching himself to a fixed franchise. Don't get me wrong, it would be amazing to see him helm a Star Wars film, either part of the main trilogy or an anthology film. But there's something respectable about wanting to forgo an easy pay check to see your own work brought to life.

Well he did direct a fixed franchise doing a Mission Impossible movie, so...there is that. But I get your point.

Take all the time you need, Brad

THE INCREDIBLES was an awesome movie and I hope the sequel is as good, if not better. Take your time and get it right; STAR WARS will be waiting (if you want it) after you're finished making your own film.

About time. Been waiting a long time for his follow up. The first one was terrific.

And based off of his work in the first Incredibles and each character's superpower, I would love to see what he could do with a Fantastic Four film.

Yea, that's a good point, he could probably make a great Fantastic Four film. Here's hoping Trank's version bombs at the box office and the rights revert back to Marvel in the next 5 years.

Good luck with that one. He already made the best FF movie - it was called The Incredibles. Dare to dream, I guess.
