Dustin Lance Black will script Earthquake produced by JJ Abrams

I did not see this one coming.

Seems that Dustin Lance Black will script EARTHQUAKE for Universal. JJ Abrams is set to produce through his Bad Robot banner. Black is known for penning dramas like MILK and J. EDGAR.

I never imagined that he would write a disaster flick. There are no details on the project currently. The only thing that we really know is that the film is not a remake of 1974’s EARTHQUAKE starring Charlton Heston. Another earthquake flick is also set up at New Line. They don’t have Abrams or Black, so good luck with that.

An unconventional choice like Black might bring the corny level down a bit. There has been an earthquake film set up over at Universal with Abrams producing since 2008. Back then they had David Seltzer (THE OMEN) writing.

What has Black been up to since J. EDGAR? He has been busy writing THE BAREFOOT BANDIT for Fox and adapting Jon Krakauer’s novel, UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN for director Ron Howard over at Warner Bros.
