Favreau says no Tony Stark cameo in Thor or CapAm

06.02.2010

If you were hoping that Robert Downey Jr. might steal a scene in another Marvel movie before THE AVENGERS, Jon Favreau says you’re out of luck. Talking to LA’s Kevin and Bean Show, Favreau says Tony’s hanging up the suit for a while, and talks a little bit about AVENGERS as well.

"[Downey's] not in 'Thor', he's not in Cap which are the two movies for next Summer,"

"It'll be very interesting to see how the Marvel Universe branches off. All of these movies are going to be taken into account for 'The Avengers' in two years."

"I'm not sure where 'The Avengers goes,' continued Favreau. "There is no shooting draft written yet. It's gonna be a big undertaking for Marvel to actually incorporate what happened in 'Iron Man,' 'Iron Man 2,' 'Thor,' 'Captain America' [and] 'The Hulk.' All that has to inform one unified vision in 'The Avengers.' It's a very exciting prospect. And certainly, Tony Stark is not going to be involved in any of the movies until that one."

Favreau also mentions he’s considering shooting IRON MAN 3 in 3D, and says he’s playing around with the cameras. He maintains that 3D movies can be worthwhile if done right, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind the extra box-office receipts either. I do have to applaud him for not allowing a hasty 3D upconvert of IRON MAN 2, and idea which I’m sure came up at some point in a conversation with the studio.

What he doesn’t say is whether or not IRON MAN 3 will drop before or after AVENGERS, a fact I’m assuming would change the plot of either a fair amount. If I had to guess, I’d say after, but 2013 seems a long ways off at this point.

Extra Tidbit: But yes, Dominic Cooper is playing Howard Stark in CAPTAIN AMERICA.

There is still plenty of time tho

To throw in a scene after the credits. Don't count it out just yet, Favs doesn't make all the decisions.

IT'S FOR THE BEST

Let each movie establish itself independently and Cap takes place in WWII and THOR in Asgard so how could he be in there anyway?

The whole movies dont take place in WWII and Asgard. Caps starts off in WWII and then goes to present day. Thor starts off in Asgard and then goes to OUR world..

I think Cap will end with him being found in ice and THOR we probably end with his fall from grace. There might be a little of the modern world in there but not much and RDJ is awesome but doesn't need to be everywhere he's not the only character in the AVENGERS or even the leader, Maybe some FURY in Cap though.

So is Thor going to take place during the events of Iron Man 2?

What about the Hulk?

I'm glad Tony Stark won't be in Thor or Cap he would overpower the solo films and then it will feel like the X-Men movies where Wolverine overpowers the entire film series, but I would like to see a Hulk mention or cameo somewhere in between Thor or Cap.

I won't see it in 3D, I'll take the 2D.

As cool as it was to see Tony Stark in the Hulk movie, it's good to know they aren't overdoing the cameos.

While I applaud Marvel's ambition...

... the inevitable outcome of all of this is to sacrifice the integrity of several individual characters' movies for the sake of one.

I'm very, very skeptical an 'Avengers' movie can be pulled off with all of the same actors.

I never understand these comments, if it's worked in the comics for 50 years and animation for at least 10 years, there is no reason it can't work in a live action film.

I'm okay with the 3D...as long as...

they don't call it IRON MAN 3D. Man, I hate those type of titles on marquees.

An Edward Norton cameo will give me some relief that he will be in the Avengers. Come on Ed I know you want to do it.

Not so bothered..

don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Iron Man's, but its success is so far making Tony the unofficial leader of this group and that shouldn't be the way.

Tony now needs to step aside so that others can drop into each other's movies and spread the cameo love and make things more equal.

If I had to choose a cameo for Cap it would be General Ross, as he was involved in the Super Soldier program lark in Hulk, which made Uber Tim Roth.

So it kinda fits.

So the entire IRON MAN series was ruined by an idiotic sequel and appearances by characters who may or may not appear in a film that doesn't even exists. This is why Marvel always inevitably cannibalize their success; they lack the foresight to maintain a profitable franchise without compromising the vision for short term gains. Im glad the first film was a success but wasnt anything learned after SPIDERMAN 3 ? Basically what Im saying is their is no need to create a Marvel universe because it

Unless of course Cap, Thor and Avengers are all as entertaining as Hulk and Iron Man.

I'd say they're being pretty successful so far.

Also everyone seems too have forgotten, but a character crossing, mulitple film building event such as this is a COMPLETELY NEW concept to cinema, as obvious as it may seem. And anything that is COMPLETELY NEW should be supported, considering cinema's current state.

Well not exactly completely new... sort of new. Japan's Godzilla franchise kind of already played around with crossing characters from multiple films, especially "Destroy All Monsters." Playing devil's advocate for a bit. Though that being said, I can't wait for an Avengers movie! So sorry nodirectionhome... I'm not on your side.

Also, I don't mind if Iron Man 3 is shot in 3D. I trust Favreau to not screw up the 3rd Iron Man movie with shitty 3D effects.

That last scene after the credits was such a tease...Thor's hammer. After I saw it, I immediately wanted to see Thor. Can't wait for Thor and Captain America.

Well that sucks. It would have been cool if Tony Stark made a cameo at the end of every movie, well maybe not Captain America since the majority should be in WW2. I would love to see Bruce Banner make a cameo at the end of the Thor movie. I mean if not Stark, then who is going to be involved in the scene after the credits after Thor and Captain America?

makes sense he wouldnt cameo in captain america as the majority of that should be set in world war 2 - a bit lame he wont appear in Thor seeing as how they used Iron Man 2 to set Thor up...but I guess the gathering of the fellowship is contractually promised to Samuel L Jackson what with his 9 picture deal.
Let's hope there is some crossover between Thor and Cap (maybe Hulk)
