First peek at Evan Peters' Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past

01.09.2014

The controversial character of Quicksilver is making his way to the big screen in not one, but two Marvel films, albeit for two different studios. The first incarnation will come from Evan Peters (American Horror Story), who will play Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver, the mutant born with the gift of speed, in director Bryan Singer's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and today we have a tiny peek at his look for the upcoming "sprequel." It's a low-res peek, but more than enough to get a feel for the direction they're going.

Quick, take a look:

I'm sure some folks will be up in arms over this, but given the context it's just one scene we're seeing him in here and Pietro has always been a kind of flashy, rebellious type and the clothing seems to suggest some aspect of those traits. Note the goggles, jacket, silver hair, and running shoes, all of which suggest the Quicksilver name. It's still unclear whether or not we'll see him in some form of a costume, but it definitely hasn't been ruled out. As for the competition, which will come in the form of Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Joss Whedon's THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, it's still "any man's race" in terms of who pulls off the better version of the character. What's your bet?

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits theaters on May 23, 2014, while THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON debuts on May 1, 2015.

Extra Tidbit: When discussing the character at the Comic Con panel last year, it was particularly cool to hear Michael Fassbender weigh in, saying, "He's [Quicksilver] got great genes." Super cool and a good indicator that the father-son relationship will likely be played up in the film.

Totally missed that trailer when it launched - weird.
I wasn't convinced by the idea of bringing Singer back on board, mostly because I thought the direction they took in First Class was excellent and a nice break from the unsatisfying previous X-Men movies. I don't think anyone will be able to call this movie without seeing the whole thing. Genius or trainwreck? - could go either way, and whatever trailers show us probably won't answer that question. Would be nice if it ended up being great,

Where are the goggles? My main thing is, how is he going to play out as Magneto's son? Seems like that'll take up some time in an already loaded movie, but I guess I figured quicksilver would've been in the future/current apocalyptic part of the story since he's magnetos son. In the 70s, Magneto would be ab mid 30s. Tho no relationship or children were ever mentioned in first class (and u think there would be in a conversation with Chuck. They are already recruiting VERY young.), so it

2. Why is Xavier walking? Is this set BEFORE First Class?

Remember when we had two Wyatt Earp movies in quick succession in the 90's... or two volcano movies... or two movies of meteorites annihilating us ...or two movies where the White House was taken? Think only time I enjoyed both versions...possibly lots...and possibly equally...was the White House movies. Either way... two chances...one better pay off. One always does.

Fox-Marvel has been doing an amazing job lately. Their last two movies 'First Class' and 'The Wolverine' were awesome. I'm really excited to see what they do next with the upcoming two X-Men films. Days of Future Past and Apocalypse are going to be hardcore, I'm really excited!

My bet's on Joss

Just from what we've heard from this character so far...the Joss Whedon rendition seems to have a fleshed-out back story with him and Wanda being in Europe before the events of Ultron and that they will be an antagonistic force which will turn protagonist during the course of the movie which is a nice arch to have. From what Bryan Singer and Fox put out about this version is that they absolutely needed him for this "one sequence" and that was all we heard about that. I think we will have a far

I think we will have a far more intriguing Pietro/Quicksilver in the MCU than with 20th Century Fox whose version I fear will be no more than a cameo lost in the sea of mutants they're trying to cram into this movie.

I wish

these characters had some kind of costume. I mean really you cant come up with something? What's the point of taking great comic book characters and then turning them into normal looking people. I am not picking on this movie or anything and I am looking forward to it, just making a general comment. I find it very UN-exciting to see regular guys walk around in a comic book movie. This has been a general problem with the Xmen movies. Even if you take the crappy Iron Man 2 - at least Iron man

But why? It's fantasy. I don't want regular looking people calling themselves Hobbits, I want Hobbits. I mean if that picture didn't have a caption you wouldn't know what movie it was for. I mean you know the actors and Jackman as Wolverine etc, but you wouldn't know it was X-men otherwise.

Agreed. The idea that black leather is more combat efficient, realistic, better, and/or more original than anything found in the comics is effing ridiculous. The X-Men are comic book characters, embrace the fantastic.

YES. What is the point of making an X MEN movie and then stripping away as much as possible. Go online find a random picture of random people standing around and then say "hey that's iceman, hey that's colossus, hey that's storm" I mean you can call anyone any character and say "oh it's a realistic version of that character that's why he is dressed in jeans and runners."

It doesn't have to be explained to me. I am simply stating my opinion. Also, Avengers really did poorly at the box office since they all had costumes. Also spiderman bombed, so did thor and iron man - yeah they all bombed ass cause they had costumes. when I first saw spiderman swing out in full costume I fucking threw up at how unrealistic it was. I wanted spiderman to wear a skimask and shorts.

and I said 'I am looking forward to it" (third line down on my original comment). I was just saying that I would be more interested the xmen films IN GENERAL if they had better costumes. I don't see how someone can argue this point with me. You want regular guys walking around with powers - make the show HEROES. that show is its own thing. Don't take established characters and take away their costumes. Make your own characters and do what you want. If its called Xmen - I want to see the xmen.

Of course its not just costumes. I am saying that I (me myself) enjoyed them more for that fact. and I felt they were more like comics for that fact. Not that is the only reason they succeeded. You need story and characters first, but you also need them to look cool too and to look something like their comic origin.

"no one pay attention to the man wearing a very loud and very ugly costume as he walks around, pay no more attention to him than anyone else as they try to move around stealthily, we cannot be fooled by this trick, who would where such a thing while trying to maintain a low profile." I wonder if that how normal police and security would act to people wearing gymnastic uniforms with paint on them?

You people make fun of th black "tactical" type suits and want something to constantly remind you that you're watching a comic book movie, AND you don't want something colorful... ooook. I think there is something wrong with you man. I want good stories, good characters and something that shows me what I am watching. If you make a PERFECT MOVIE with great acting, story, etc and make a guy called peter parker - make him exactly the same character from the comics, and have him wear jeans and ski-mask to fight crime then its NOT FUCKING SPIDERMAN. Why not make the hulk flesh colored then - makes sense - why does he turn green? - well you don't make him flesh colored because that is NOT hulk. I mean this is a fantasy movie based on comics. you want a bald generic looking guy to be apocalypse? No you want something that reminds you of apocalypse. I cant believe we are having this discussion really. are you just egging me on, cause I don't understand what you are talking about. do you not see that avengers had the comic characters brought to life and still had everything you wanted in a movie? spiderman 2 had spiderman in costume and good drama and good action and story and doc ock at least resembled his appearance in comics.

I see your point, but I don't get why it is such an issue for you. I get that some movies pull straight from the comics as far as costume, and it works. X-men has always strayed from traditional costumes and I find that it works for the tone and setting they have cultivated. The only point you seem to be making is that it needs to be fantasy, fantasy, fantasy... It works great without it. Then you take the most extreme nonsensical examples to try to validate your points. It's like arguing

J-man I see what you're saying, it's never bothered me as much with the X-Men movies for some reason, I guess because it's worked but I would like to see the costumes in a comic book movie. It would be like watching a James Bond movie where Bond wears track suits instead or Indiana Jones wearing a Hawaiian shirt. The characters clothes are a huge part of their legend and it's just not the same without them, you're right. Of course story and characters and all that stuff is important but I

Opinions can differ but SinisterMinistr you are just plain wrong when you say it's not practical. If the avengers can break records using the true to comics Thor and Captain America costumes then there is no way the X-Men can't do the same. Both movies set in the real world, flashy costumes could work for both.

its not a deal breaker - i own all the xmen movies etc. i said i was looking forward to this movie. i simply want more fantasy in something that is fantasy. my arguments are if you are making an xmen film it should look like xmen. done. if batman wasnt wearing a batsuit, its not batman, regardless of how well the movie worked on its own terms. i am not using extreme examples, all my examples are from other comic book movies? also i said I WISH, not this is how it should be. anyway, i dont much

Captain America was the only one wearing a costume in the Avengers and Tony Stark made fun of it calling it a "spangly outfit". Tony's suit is not a costume: it's armor. Thor's uniform is also, presumably, armor, although he doesn't wear much actual armor because it would restrict his movement. The Hulk doesn't wear a costume: that's his skin. The Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, the Falcon, all of them either have not or will not wear costumes: they wear variations on SHIELD

Thor's uniform is also, presumably, armor, although he doesn't wear much actual armor because it would restrict his movement. The Hulk doesn't wear a costume: that's his skin. The Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, the Falcon, all of them either have not or will not wear costumes: they wear variations on SHIELD uniforms. Captain America will wear a variation on a SHIELD uniform in Captain America: the Winter Soldier (aka the REAL Agents of SHIELD from the ACTUAL comics) albeit one with distinct markings to show who he is. If the Avengers wore costumes in the movie(s) then the Agents of SHIELD must have been wearing costumes this week and of course they weren't because those were uniforms. SHIELD Agents will wear either uniforms or, like Coulson, a suit.

The only beef against Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is that Jackman's over 6 feet tall. I guess there's only so much you can do to make the guy look shorter, and Jackman's so iconic as Wolverine that Fox figures fans are willing to ignore the height issue.

I think that's a beautiful shot of all the characters together.

I like both actors and look forward to both portrayals, but I think Taylor Johnson gives the better performance in Age of Ultron.

Truth is that X-Men and Spidey should belong back with Marvel. Period.

Fox bought the X-Men movie rights in February 1998, and Sony bought the film rights to Spider-Man in March of 1999. Disney bought Marvel in 2011. Why the fuck is Disney entitled to X-Men and Spider-Man film rights? Just because you want to see Spider-Man and Wolverine in The Avengers, doesn't mean you should say stupid and ignorant things. Spidey and X-Men do not belong with "Marvel" Disney.

Hey Kenmasters...WTF? Marvel was down on it's luck back in the 90's and sold some of the rights to it's characters to Fox and Sony back then. You know, it's either sell something off or go "bankrupt", which they were on the verge of.

Truth of the matter is that Spider-Man and X-Men all belong in the Marvel Universe and would probably be best handled by the Marvel folks (with the deep, deep pockets of Disney to back them). Wolverine and Spider-Man in the "Avengers"....yeah, I know they

Wolverine and Spider-Man in the "Avengers"....yeah, I know they were in those comics a couple of times (also in the Fantastic Four too), but NO they should NOT be in the Avengers (or the FF) movie. Fox's record on X-Men and Fantastic Four is piss poor on the whole (while there are flashes of greatness in all of those films) and while Sony has Raimi's Spider-Man 1 and 2 that were very good, #3 and the last incarnation of the "Webbed Wonder" were less than "Amazing" or "Spectacular". Your argument is like saying that Superman and Batman don't belong in the DC Universe either.

Stupid and ignorant things huh?

BTW...whatever is following you...I think it's gaining!

To be completely honest, I would be on your side and back your opinion 100% is Fox and Sony were putting out shit movies. However, I really liked X-Men First Class, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Wolverine. The last three movies put out by those studios were very good. I'll be the first one to agree with you and demand that Sony and Fox sell their rights back if they start phoning in their Marvel films. Also, the last two movies that Disney put out (Thor 2 and Iron Man 3) were average in my

Don't get me wrong, Disney has a strong track record with it's Marvel films, but they're far from perfect. I just don't think that us fanboys should be backing only one studio. As long as Fox and Sony are making good Marvel films, then we should leave them alone. The second they start churning out shit, I'll be the first one to attack and boycott them.

Hey, I'm with you. The more good comic book based movies...the better. I suppose that this is were we part company though. I haven't seen "Wolverine" yet, so I'll omit that one in my tally. Raimi's Spidey 1 and 2 were fab, not so much 3. I didn't care much for "Amazing" at all, though Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker was better than Maguire's in any film (again flashes of greatness). I didn't care for X-Men #2, #3 or "First Class". "Wolverine: Origins" was horrid. Iron Man 1 was

I didn't care for X-Men #2, #3 or "First Class". "Wolverine: Origins" was horrid. Iron Man 1 was great, 2 was iffy, the third one...not so much. The Eric Bana "Hulk" was also horrid, while the Norton "Hulk" was fair (again flashes). Daredevil was a mess and I won't even bother commenting on the 2 FF flix. While Avengers was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed Captain America and Thor. I'll omit Thor #2 for now. I'm sure I'm missing one or two here, but here's my score for now:

7 pro and 13 con. Now out of that number, 4 are Marvel productions, 2 Sony and 1 Fox. Now I realize these are my opinions and I'm damn welcome to 'em. Not a good record though by any means. Looks like Fox and Sony have to do a little better...Hell, Marvel needs too as well.

Before I close, I want to run something by a fanboy. Hopefully, this is where I bring you back to the fold and we can see eye to eye. In the beginning (regardless of company), I was thrilled that there were comic book movies being made (didn't matter which company really, we've just been discussing Marvel). I was so happy to see a comic based flick that I was giving more respect and kudos to the film, just because it WAS a comic based movie. Now, that we are seeing more and more of them, I've come to the conclusion that they've got to be DAMN good movies as well and holding the production companies responsible and their "feet to the fire" for it. I'm just not going to sing it's praises if it's a shitty movie. End of story, don't even ask anymore. Sell crazy to someone else...I'm all stocked up! I believe I've turned a corner in my old age.
