Gary Oldman as dwarf?

04.29.2009

It's rare that I'd ever run a trailer from 2003 as news on this site but it seems like something that a lot of people missed (even our resident film expert Dave Davis hadn't yet seen it), so I thought we'd give it another run.

A lot of people give Matthew McConaughey shit for his choice in movies and rightfully so. Just the Kate Hudson romantic comedy genre alone has been overdone on his resume. But this movie is too ridiculous to even make up. In fact this trailer is so bad it makes you wonder whether it's a fake.

It's a romantic comedy (of sort) that stars McConaughey and Kate Becksinale as a couple who fall in love. Hijinks ensue when the former introduces the latter to his family...who happen to all be dwarfs, including his brother Gary Oldman. Who's playing a dwarf. It's all to bizarre to even get into here but rest assured it's real (we wrote up a little something about it back in 2003) and has to be seen to be believed. Check it out below! And yes (no joke), the film's tagline is: IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE THAT MATTER.

Extra Tidbit: This reminds me of that 1999 movie THE OTHER SISTER.

Tidbit

Tom Cruise auditioned for Oldman's part, but he was too short.

Gary Oldman is actually in every movie that comes out, it's just he only chooses to be credited about 2% of the time.

Seriously.
Watch the "Freeway" movies. They're also Matthew Bright's work. The guy has a sick, dark, beautiful sense of humor; one that exists in decided disdain of subtlety. People grossly misinterpret his cinema as something to be taken seriously. It's not. Bright is the Orson Welles of bad taste and if you have a palette for being offended, you'll really dig on his films.

The Directors Vision

Seriously?
The Director was upset with how the Studio ruined his vision of a Romantic Comedy with Midgets?

Some artists have grand dreams. And some just do drugs.

This is a film that Matthew Bright directed and got really pissed off about how the studio took over. There is a clear disconnect between what some of the producers wanted from the picture and what Bright envisioned. THAT is the reason "Tiptoes" fails. If Bright would have had his way (the man is a genius), this film could have been great. As it stands, there is a strangeness to it that I find endearing and single absurd moments that make it worthwhile regardless. Definitely worth checking

wow

It's funny cause as soon as I read the link on the side, I said to myself " you mean like in Tiptoes..?" Then funny enough, thats hat the article is about. I caught this movie ounce years ago, i don't think it was that bad, but honestly can't remember. I do remember how amazing of a job they did making gary oldman a dwarf though. I couldn't believe it, lol!

What Happened Gary?

From the 80's into the 90's he was a respected serious actor. You'd see his name and know you'd be seeing something good. 2000 comes along and aside from Hannibal, Potter and Batman he does alot of crap straight to video movies. You used to be up their with Daniel Day Lewis who really gets into his roles. You don't see him doing crap movies. Just start saying NO, unless you need the money that bad. Anyway, that's all i have to say about that.

It's real.

I caught the whole thing on cable one night, and it's not that bad for a movie-of-the-week kind of tv movie.

Tiptoes

Tiptoes is a pretty weak comedy.
I guess Gary Oldman is okay convincing as a dwarf, but his charachter is really boring. The only actor with funny lines is Peter Dinkage, who are the only reason to see this movie.

It can be bought used at secondspin.com for $2.39 if anyone should feel like watching for themselves.
