Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters sequel scrapped; TV show in the works

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

If you were hoping to see Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton reprise their roles in a sequel to 2013's HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, I have some bad news for you.

Even though a follow-up has been in development ever since the first film was released, with Tommy Wirkola and Michael Finch writing drafts of the script and Bruno Aveillan having been hired to direct just a couple a months ago, Paramount Pictures has decided to shift gears on the HANSEL & GRETEL property. Plans to make a theatrical feature have been scrapped in favor of developing a HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS TV series, and it's a given that Renner and Arterton won't be playing the characters on the small screen.

Paramount TV and MGM are partnering on the project, with Gary Sanchez set to produce. The plan is to get HANSEL & GRETEL onto a cable network.

Personally, I can't say I'm all that disappointed to hear that we won't be getting HANSEL & GRETEL 2, as I wasn't a fan of the first movie. A TV series has potential, I suppose, and horror-related projects are doing pretty well on television these days. This might be a smart move on Paramount's part.
