Interview: We sit down with Jaws screenwriter Carl Gottlieb & production designer Joe Alves

This week, you may be afraid to go back in the water. With the upcoming release of JAWS on Blu-ray, Universal Home Video invited JoBlo.com to a very special opportunity. We sat down with two of the gentleman involved with the original film including. This includes screenwriter Carl Gottlieb and production designer Joe Alves. The best part is the interviews took place on the very spot where tourists get the chance to face the menacing great white everyday on the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour.

Once we arrived, we made our way to Amity Island. While there we stood next to the very waters where Bruce the shark rises from the depths. We were also next to the exact same boat where the ill-fated diver “George” is attacked with every tram that passes, turning the blue waters red. This particular stop on the Studio Tour is one of my favorite places in the world. It was an absolute thrill to watch the trams go by filled with tourists hoping to get splashed by the shark. And of course, we chat with some of the men behind what is arguably one of the greatest movies ever made.

While reminiscing about the film, we talk about the pesky shark not working and a few other stories on how JAWS came to exist and change Hollywood forever. And thanks to what may be the most impressive Blu-ray release of the year – available on August 14th – audiences can revisit this monumental motion picture. So stay out of the water, and make sure to pick up your copy of JAWS on Blu-ray celebrating 100 years of Universal Pictures.

Stay tuned tomorrow for more on this fantastic release…

“…bigger than SOUND OF MUSIC, bigger than GODFATHER, the next thing you knew it was the highest grossing film of all time.”
