If you want a guy to keep a secret, perhaps Kevin Smith isn't the best choice. Last week Smith spilled the beans that he saw WATCHMEN and though he wasn't allowed to give a review, gave some thoughts on it anyway. Now we get word that Smith has apparently also seen STAR TREK. How about you get this guy to take over for Ebert and Roeper? While Smith did his best to not outwardly admit to seeing STAR TREK on the Kevin and Bean radio show in LA, he did everything but blurt out, Yes, I saw STAR TREK and it's totally awesome I can't take it yaaaay ZOMG!. Here's how it went down (emphasis mine, obviously):

----------

Smith: I saw a movie last night that I cannot talk about.

Host: Was it good?

Smith: It was phenomenal.

Host: Any stars, any break out stars, and do they trek?

Smith: The stars absolutely trek in this film.

----------

Smith adds that the film is "fantastic" and that the director did a "phenomenal" job. He also believes the lead actor (Chris Pine without saying the name Chris Pine) will be "an instant star" and "so famous." In case you're doubting it's STAR TREK and Chris Pine he says it's a "role that has been played before many times by the same guy." So we all know that Kevin saw STAR TREK so can we just dispense with the NDA and just let the dude review it?? Thanks to TrekMovie for transcription.

Extra Tidbit: Smith actually did fill in quite capably for Roger Ebert.

made Clerks 2 and thats probably the worst flick I have ever seen, but he could be right on this... I've seen a Trek trailer that blew me away, that's for sure

Yeah, I don't care what Kevin Smith says about other movies. He hated Magnolia. Listening to him review movies is like watching a movie created by Roger Ebert.

Why all the hate towards Kevin Smith? At least he's honest and true to his fan base. Has it occurred to any of you that the reason Smith has seen a lot of these films first is because his friends value his opinion?

Guess not.

I personally look forward to this flick and Zack and Miri.

I like the sound of this. Anytime you make a fanboy happy with a flick like this, it's a good thing. And episode 3 was better than 2/3 of the rest of the star wars movies. Wanna fight about it? lol

Tool?
Kevin Smith is the consummate Fan/Director. So, when Kevin gets to see a movie before anyone else, it's always with a grain of salt that his reviews are taken with. Sometimes they are rather accurate and there are very few reviewers who aren't as fair as he is. Also, dontcha kinda think that maybe the studios use Kevin because of his devout cultish following to help create that extra buzz?...

He is rather outspoken and is a very good guest on talk shows and convention boards.

If I was a guy who hadn't made a decent film since... ever. I'd cozy up to the studios too.

it's simple, he gives them the nerd co-sign...

and they give him the pennies he needs for his shitty movies.

I don't look to Kevin Smith for my movie opinion, but I'm not going to tell him to keep his mouth shut either.

I don't neccesarily agree with Smith's taste in movies, but...
Kevin Smith IS the Jesus Christ movieland, contrary to marcovision1's comment.

Again,
this is the same guy who loved Episode 3 when Lucas gave him a sneak peek.

In the immortal words of Ashley J. Williams, "It's a trick. Get an axe."

Again, I ask:

"who gives a fuck about what Kevin Smith thinks about anything and why should we care?"

He's just some mediocre filmmaker, not the Jesus Christ of movieland.

This just makes it all the more irritating that they're waiting till next year to release it. Here's hoping most people share his opinion of the movie, the Trek franchise could use a boost.

And seriously, Trek AND Watchmen?? Are you bloody kidding me? If I had connections like that, man...

This is cool to hear again, from Smith.

Seriously, this guy should fill in for Ebert or Roeper instead of the ass clown, Ben Lyons. The other dude, Mankewicz (sp?) is alright.

Like I have said before
Another movie Kevin Smith sees early and it's the most awesome thing ever. Is there a movie he has some real insight about instead of just singing praises about?

Who is Smith Blowing to get in...
to see both "Watchmen" and "Star Trek" this early? Seriously, I wanna know who, 'cause I'd do filthy things in order to get early screenings of either of these bad boys...

In all seriousness though, I'm taking Smith's opinions with a grain of salt if for no other reason than the fact that hey loved all the Star Wars prequels. Still, I admire the man.

Thanks Kevin. I'm not a Star Trek fan and I'm excited for this movie. Now, you're saying it's awesome and I feel an obligation to trust you. Now I'm more excited. Damn you!
