Learn which two actors might play Barry Allen/The Flash on The CW's Arrow

Sep. 9, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Back in July it was announced that The Flash will be appearing in several episodes of The CW's ARROW, which could lead to a new series featuring the character. Latino-Review has apparently discovered which two actors will have screentests for the part of Barry Allen in the series and they are...

Matt Barr (left) and James Mackay (right). Barr is probably best known for his roles in HATFIELDS & MCCOYS and ONE TREE HILL, while Mackay is an Australian actor who stars in the upcoming film SINGULARITY. Don't like either for Barry Allen? Don't worry: apparently a third actor will also test for the role, although his identity has not been uncovered at this time. I'm leaning more towards Matt Barr based on looks alone, but I guess both of them could be a decent Barry Allen.

If DC is moving forwards with a Flash film as well, I don't think a television series is necessary and wouldn't be fair to the actors in either roles since they would be constantly be compared to each other by critics and fans. It's one thing when an actor is being compared to others who have previously played the same character, it's another when we're discussing them playing the same one at the same time. Like I said, I just don't think it would be fair.

Season 2 of ARROW is set to premiere on October 9th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Would you prefer a television series or movie? And would you want the series connected to DC's cinematic universe or separate?

Third actor is...

The third actor being screentested is Grant Gustin (90210, Glee).

Based off of the two choices at the top, I would say go with Matt Barr. But I'm curious to know who the third actor is screen testing for the part. I love Arrow and hope they don't screw either characters up by introducing one another into each orher's worlds.

Still hope to see Charlie Hunnam as Flash or as Green Arrow in the live action Justice League film.

FAIR???

what the heck is up with all this 'fair' nonsense?? they would both be making a pretty darn good living so I don't think either one will be thinking 'hey this isn't fair man'?? that's silly.....this is the film and tv business fair doesn't compute man. and anyway both could easily survive without being connected and constantly compared. When and if the movie comes out there will probably be a quick little comparison and then you let it go and enjoy the movie for what it is. PEriod

Easy

Make the blonde one the Flash and cast the other one as Professor Zoom. Problem solved. What else you got Hollywood?

you say based on looks you are leaning toward Mackay, i have to assume you dont know what barry allen looks like then
i would go with the one that is blonde, has an american accent, and looks like he runs. but being that this comes from latino review, you have to assume its BS

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks. I'll go with blondie with blue eyes for Barry over the pointy chinned dark haired aussie.

I do know what Barry Allen looks like...I just wrote the wrong actor's name. Chalk it up to a case of the Mondays.

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox shows you can have a compelling Flash story in a self-contained narrative. They need to choose, though, either TV or movies. Since we know that WB is pursuing a Justice League movie, it seems redundant to establish a new Flash. My guess is they will go with one of the other incarnations of the character, like Smallville did.

Not familiar with either but I guess Matt Barr kinda looks the part. I think DC should focus on getting a movie universe in order instead of a TV one but well, if Barry exists in the same universe as Arrow's Oliver Queen, I guess beggars can't be choosers and I'll go for that. Not quite related to TV or movies, but have a look at how horribly things have been going at the DC offices since the New 52: [link]
