LucasArts new Star Wars 1313 will take gamers to a very dark place

Do you remember that scene in ATTACK OF THE CLONES where Obi Wan and Anakin have to travel to the seedy surface of Coruscant to find Padme’s assassin? That location has been featured a bit on THE CLONE WARS but has not been widely explored in STAR WARS. Until now.

At E3 (June 5-7), LucasArts will unveil their “mature” STAR WARS video game, entitled STAR WARS 1313.

The game is going to focus on “criminal intrigue” and traditional weapons like blasters. This looks like the first STAR WARS game not to focus on The Force.

“Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we’ve always known existed, but never had a chance to visit, ” LucasArts President Paul Meegan said in a statement. “We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself.”

While there are only a handful of STAR WARS video games that I have really gotten into, this does sound like an interesting concept. LucasFilm has registered the game’s title across various merchandising platforms which means they are planning a major push behind this game.

What do you think of this new direction in the STAR WARS mythos?
