Marvel’s Runaways will start filming in March

One of my favorite comics, RUNAWAYS is coming to the big screen.

It’s been awhile since any significant news on the project has made the rounds. I’d say about a year ago I heard that they were looking to make the comic into a movie. Then a few months ago, I caught wind of the fact that they were actually going to cast an Asian-American actress for the part of Nico.

Cut to the news of the day, Production Weekly gave an update on the film’s status: Update: Marvel’s “The Runaways” (aka “Small Faces”), is scheduled to begin filming in March in L.A. I love how the shooting name is SMALL FACES.

For those who didn’t read the comic, I don’t want to be a total spoiler whore. I went into the comics with no knowledge of the story and wouldn’t have it any other way. It made for a better introduction into the series as well as the twists and turns that come along the way.

It will be hard to avoid the reason the kids took off in the first place. Here’s a synopsis that doesn’t give away all the good stuff: “Runaways follows a group of teenagers who find that some family secrets are bigger than others when they discover their parents are actually super-villains. Running away from their homes, the teens band together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents’ origins and of their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the evil done by their folks.”

Sadly, writer/creator Brian K. Vaughan did not write the script. UK television writer Drew Pearce penned the adaptation. It’s being said that Pearce’s script stays very close to the original source material. Peter Sollett (NICK & NORAH’S INFINITE PLAYLIST) will be helming.
