New details hatch for How to Train Your Dragon sequel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Out of all the Dreamworks sequels currently spinning up their wheels to generate an unreasonable amount of cash, the only series I actually think warrants one is HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. It was the first truly good Dreamworks movie in years (don’t get me started on KUNG FU PANDA), and it almost felt, dare I say it, Pixar-like.

The film was a smash hit, and plans have been in the works for not only a sequel, but a trilogy and maybe even more than that. Now we’re getting our first real bit of info on what me might expect from the next chapter. From writer/co-director Dean DeBois and producer Bonnie Arnold via THR:

“I turned in the script before the holidays, and got some notes back and I’m working on a second draft. It’s going to be quite epic. We are treating How To Train Your Dragon as the first act in a much larger story. As we head into this one, the world expands. Everything is much bigger with still the heartfelt qualities that made the first one resonate so much with audiences. There are no longer restrictions to this tiny island in the North Sea. They have theentire Northern hemisphere within their grasp.”

“It’s going to be more fun adventures with Hiccup and Toothless. There will be some new dragons and maybe some new characters. It’s the further adventures of Hiccup on his journey of becoming a man and the ultimate leader of the Viking clan.”

I’m guessing that the dragons and vikings (spoilers) now teamed up will have to take on a new foe, but what will that be? Native Americans and Spirit Wolves? Sorry, I’m bad with historical timelines, but that could work, right?

Are you excited for a DRAGON sequel?
