New details hatch for How to Train Your Dragon sequel

02.08.2011

Out of all the Dreamworks sequels currently spinning up their wheels to generate an unreasonable amount of cash, the only series I actually think warrants one is HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. It was the first truly good Dreamworks movie in years (don't get me started on KUNG FU PANDA), and it almost felt, dare I say it, Pixar-like.

The film was a smash hit, and plans have been in the works for not only a sequel, but a trilogy and maybe even more than that. Now we're getting our first real bit of info on what me might expect from the next chapter. From writer/co-director Dean DeBois and producer Bonnie Arnold via THR:

"I turned in the script before the holidays, and got some notes back and I'm working on a second draft. It's going to be quite epic. We are treating How To Train Your Dragon as the first act in a much larger story. As we head into this one, the world expands. Everything is much bigger with still the heartfelt qualities that made the first one resonate so much with audiences. There are no longer restrictions to this tiny island in the North Sea. They have theentire Northern hemisphere within their grasp."

"It's going to be more fun adventures with Hiccup and Toothless. There will be some new dragons and maybe some new characters. It's the further adventures of Hiccup on his journey of becoming a man and the ultimate leader of the Viking clan."

I'm guessing that the dragons and vikings (spoilers) now teamed up will have to take on a new foe, but what will that be? Native Americans and Spirit Wolves? Sorry, I'm bad with historical timelines, but that could work, right?

Are you excited for a DRAGON sequel?

Extra Tidbit: I also count this film as the only worthwhile use of 3D I've seen since AVATAR

Oh, HELL yes!

Just watched this movie over the weekend for the first time. Got it from Netflix and my 7 and 9 years olds have already watched it 4 times in 3 days. Any sequel would have a LOT to live up to.

The final sequence with the boss dragon was intense as *%^$. I saw it at my family's place and pretty much went to the store to add it to my collection right afterward.

Hmm If I had to make a guess I would say they are probably gonna have more dragons introduced with some being the friendly and some not so friendly. As for beyond the trilogy, I could see this as a game of some form possibly an mmorpg. Why not? Who wouldnt like to become a viking and tame a huge dragon for a pet and mount. I guess world of warcraft could have competition if that worked out.

I'd want a trilogy at the most. Having any more than that is a little too much.

So Long As Craig Ferguson Comes Back

I think they should do how to train your dragon vs Cloverfield Vs Mechagodzilla. I really could not think of another villain unless the go for an even BIGGER dragon than the firsts but that goes into dr evil million/billion territory

Kung Fu Panda

is awesome, what the hell? Jack Black is the most inspired voice casting in a while, it was a perfect marriage.

Hope they bring Chris Sanders back

His direction made this movie great, just like Lilo and Stitch. It's also notable that this is from a series of books, so hopefully they somewhat follow the source material.

awesome

"Dragon" really was Pixar-esk and i'm looking forward to great additions to the story as long as they dont fall in to the same hole as Shrek. And personally i think "Panda" and "Dragon" are the best Dreamworks since "Shrek 2", but to each their own

VERY EXCITED

how to train your dragon was awesome in my opinion. it took me by surprise. and the use of 3D was actually very awesome and the aerial scene when hiccup and toothless finally figure out how to fly without the manual was breathtaking. music and animated cinematography at it's best. BRING ON THE SEQUEL

I LOVED How to Train Your Dragon but I'm not too excited about the sequel. Sure, there are a ton of things they could do but the beauty of the first one was the emotion in the story.

I also loved Shrek, Madagascar and Ice Age and their sequels are utter shit so.. I'll stay cautious.
