No Cleo for Jackman

Hugh Jackman’s new career choice as an awards ceremony host may be preventing him from continuing a once promising acting career. Due to scheduling conflicts (hosting award shows), Jackman has dropped out of his reported starring role in Steven Soderbergh’s CLEO–a 3-D live action musical–gulp. Jackman was set to play Marc Antony opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones as Cleopatra. Mr. 3-D himself Ray Winstone is being tapped to play Julius Cesar.

One can’t help but meet Soderbergh’s latest project with some skepticism. He has said he wants to inject the famous love story with rock n’ roll songs and a style akin to an Elvis musical. The music was written by the indie rock band Guided by Voices, and the script is by the group’s former bass player, James Greer. If anyone can pull this ambitious project off however, it’s Steven Soderbergh. Unfortunately for Jackman, he’ll have to wait for the movie’s release like the rest of us, to find out.
