Normally I’d sarcastically dismiss yet another attempt at cashing in on the Harry Potter genre (YES, it’s a genre all by itself…) but I have to admit that new teaser for PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF makes me curious enough to wanna see a full theatrical trailer. You think they could’ve made that title any longer, though?
The film follows the titular hero, as played by Logan Lerman who gained attention in the amazing yet short-lived “Jack & Bobby“, who happens to be the son of Poseidon and is sent on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt, prevent a civil war among Gods and rake in a ton of cash for FOX.The latter being the real suspense of it all.
Chris Columbus assembled a surprising cast for his new film, among others Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Uma Thruman, Steeve Coogan, Joey Pants and the soothing smile of Rosario Dawson. And Pierce Brosnan as the obligatory Dumbledore knock-off; not the actor I would’ve chosen for such a part, but the long hair and beard he’s got going in there looks good on him. Rock on, Bond!
The film opens on February 12, which sounds like FOX doesn’t trust it against Potter nor Twilight. Meh, better that than some generic Hugh Grant rom-com for Valentine weekend.
