Phillip Seymour Hoffman sits in the dugout on the set of Moneyball

Hi Phillip Seymour Hoffman! How’s the view from the dugout?

Production has gone underway for MONEYBALL, the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane and his successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget, by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

Today a set pic of Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Oakland A’s manager Art Howe was posted by the film’s facebook page.

On a different note, former A’s assistant GM Paul DePodesta has asked for his name to be removed from the film. He apparently didn’t care for the casting, so they changed the characters name to Peter Brand. Jonah Hill is the actor who is play DePodesta, I mean, Brand. He meant no offense towards Hill, he felt that the character was fictitious, and only loosely based on him. “At the end of the day, I just wasn’t comfortable with my name on a fictitious character,” DePodesta wrote in an email.

This information comes from MLB Fanhouse (via /Film), who have detailed information on each of the characters in the film. Beane, whom Brad Pitt is playing, has spent time with the actor. Does he nail the role?
“Is he a good me? We’ll see.”
He also mentions that Pitt along with the rest of the cast and crew have done a great job of, “trying to learn about the industry they are recreating, without getting in the way.”
